Elon Volleyball: Italy Global Experience DAY ONE

The Elon University volleyball program is spending its spring break in Italy as part of Elon's commitment to diversity and global engagement for its students. In this first journal entry, seniors Haylie Clark and Leah Daniel reflect on the team's first day abroad.

Ciao! Leah and I experienced flying for 24 hours to finally get to Italy. We were on three separate flights, one of which was 8 hours long.

Right when we landed in Italy, we met our travel coordinators and headed to Franciacora Mosnel for a tour of a vineyard and had a light lunch.

It was exciting to see how wine is made and appreciate the process that goes into it.

After the tour, we went to Little Rome (Verona) where we had a guided walking tour of the beautiful city. We saw Romeo and Juliet's houses along with multiple other famous landmarks that tied into the history of Verona.

We got the chance to walk down some of the streets with the most famous and luxurious shopping in Little Rome while being able to get to know one another more with our new coaches.

Along with this, we also got our first gelato of the trip! We ended the day with a 3-course meal at our hotel that consisted of lasagna, potatoes and chocolate cake.

Overall, this was a great start to our trip and we can't wait for it to continue.
