ACADEMY IN MOTION STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK: 2023-2026

Diane Harrison Ogawa Chair, Board of Trustees

On behalf of the Albuquerque Academy Board of Trustees, I’m excited to announce the launch of our new strategic plan, Academy in Motion, designed to provide a framework and a pathway forward for the Academy to serve as a leader in education and community.

Created with input from faculty, students, staff, alumni, and members of our broader community, this plan sets the course for the Academy’s future and lays out four pillars that we’ll work to accomplish in the next three years.

With strong oversight from the Board of Trustees, the Academy leadership has been tasked with identifying strategies and measurable objectives that will help achieve our goals. To move it forward, we will continue to need your help. We will require deep partnerships with others who share a love for the Academy. We will need talented, committed people from diverse backgrounds and from all eras of the Academy to contribute their passions and creativity to help us keep the Academy in Motion.

We LEAD with curiosity in how we learn and teach by fostering academic excellence and strengthening meaningful relationships.

STRATEGIES

  • Support curriculum evolution and experimentation to expand experiential, hands-on learning for and by students
  • Define student success and create a structure to regularly review and assess individual student progress toward their respective goals
  • Vertically and horizontally align curriculum in grades 6-12

We ENGAGE our past, present, and future as we create inclusive ways of connecting and thriving.

We INVEST in our people, campus, and communities.

  • Improve employee compensation, benefits, and professional development opportunities

We GROW our resources to expand our reach and support a sustainable future.

STRATEGIES

  • Ensure intergenerational equity by growing the endowment corpus
  • Develop an estate and planned giving program
  • Identify and develop corporate, not-for-profit, and community organization partnerships to impact student and employee recruitment, service programs, and philanthropic support of the school
  • Enhance affordability for high-caliber students from middle-income families by looking at new methods of assessing financial need and continuing to fund 100% of demonstrated need

Our Mission

We believe that children’s lives change when their natural passion for learning is nurtured and transformed into habits of life-long learning and reflection. We believe that the world changes as these children learn to serve country and community with wisdom, conviction, and compassion.

In light of these beliefs,

We serve students of talent and character, offering them an education that broadens their perspectives, sharpens their minds, strengthens their bodies, and engages their hearts.
We commit to creating a caring, inclusive, and just community, using the geography and culture of our home in the Southwest to enrich our educational programs and to foster creativity, personal balance, and a connection to the natural world.
We devote our resources to ensure economic accessibility to our students and to support the wider community through outreach and community service.
We entrust this mission to our graduates and successors as we preserve our resources and serve the generations of children to come.
