Celebrating Black history month at Foothill A way to respect the leaders of our community

On Jan. 12, Foothill Technology high school was invited to partake in Buena’s Black Student Union's (BSU) annual Black History Month door contest. Each door was created by fourth period classes to recognize a person that impacted the Black Community. Melanie Lindsey (Captain) sent an email with contest rules saying, "One winner from each school will move into the districtwide competition that will be judged by Dr. Rice." She later comments telling staff that Buena's BSU is looking forward to planning more activities and working with Foothill Tech.

As an imitation of Jean Michel Basquiat's art, a colorful poster pays respect to his poetic art. This poster was displayed on the door of Mrs. Leaf's classroom and winner of the contest.

A bright poster on the door of an art classroom teaches students about Kehinde Wiley, a painter who spreads his culture throughout the world of art.

Valerie Thomas is recognized in the chemistry classroom for inventing the illusion transmitter and her later work at NASA.
Emily Hunt recalls her student's choice in picking her poster for the door to her class, and how these events relate back to her own life.
Heather Ferris proudly displays the poster that her class created, which exhibits the first African-Americans to earn their doctoral degree in psychology.
