Happiness through knowledge. That’s been the Honors Program’s guiding principle since its founding.

For more than a half century, it has stayed true to the idea that learning in a welcoming environment from great professors and alongside inspiring peers makes education a joyful experience.

As an Honors student, you’ll develop close working relationships with attentive instructors in smaller classes and weekly seminars that examine wide-ranging topics and intriguing questions.

Haven’t chosen a major? You aren’t alone.

Many students enter college undecided what degree program they’ll pursue. UL Lafayette helps them make this important decision in a number of ways.

The Major and Career Exploration Center is one. It sponsors an annual Majors Fair where participants can explore areas of interest and develop career plans.

The University also offers a course that helps students find what majors and careers are right for them.

First-year students can decide not to declare a major – though that’s a temporary option. Undeclared students must choose a major before they complete 45 credit hours.

Students and alumni want meaningful careers. Employers want talented, well-educated employees. The Office of Career Services’ job is to connect the two.

It matches the right candidates with the right opportunities in a number of ways. Those include hosting a Career Day and numerous job fairs where students and graduates can meet with recruiters; offering résumé tips that’re sure to get your application a second look; and preparing applicants for on-site visits through mock interviews.

Career Services also uses Handshake, an online service that connects students and alumni with employers.

For more information, visit Agnes Edwards Hall, room 104 or our website.

UL Lafayette has a strong – and growing – reputation as a place where world-class research happens.

Across campus, talented and inspiring faculty researchers are changing how we see the world. Our University is committed to “research for a reason.” That motto means we’re experts in applying our research to solving real-world problems.

There’s another reason we are committed to research at UL Lafayette. It’s because our students benefit from the hands-on opportunities research provides.

You might find them trudging through a marsh to plant native grasses that combat coastal erosion, mining data to find the best place in the world to drill for oil, or determining how the sun degrades panels at our new solar lab.

It’s all conducted under the watchful eyes of faculty mentors who understand the value such research projects have to students and their futures.

Research collections at the University document the state’s history and culture, and draw scholars from around the world.

For example, the Cajun and Creole Music Collection holds over 9,000 recordings and other music-related materials, while the Center for Louisiana Studies makes available to researchers 74,000 images, 17,000 videos, and 44,000 oral histories and musical performances.
