Silk Club was founded as a communal space in which Asian and Asian American women, non-binary, and genderqueer folks could meaningfully cultivate our creativity, artistic expression, and political mobilization. It is a space committed to validating and empowering intersectional identities, building creative opportunities and collaboration, and fostering connections between different Asian communities.

Since its inception in January 2018, Silk Club has hosted and participated in a number of community events and programs, in addition to creating and developing our zine QUIET!

QUIET! is a bi-annual zine that weaves together photography, writing, art, design, and other creative works about Asian and Asian American experiences. As Asian women, non-binary, and genderqueer folks, our stereotypically introverted demeanor has been used as a means of belittlement and ridicule. In an attempt to unlearn, subvert, and reclaim this given identity, our collaborators reflect on many aspects of Asian and Asian American life. Situated within a social justice-oriented and feminist framework, the QUIET! zine, and Silk Club at large, strive to highlight and empower Asian creatives, create a space for marginalized voices, and nourish a sense of community.

This spring, Silk will be publishing the 10th issue of QUIET!, a special double digit milestone. Reaching this point is an indication of the persistence and resilience that defines Silk Club and the community at large. We could not have achieved this milestone without the love, passion, and creativity of everyone who has been a part of Silk since its inception. We want to thank the AARC for highlighting our work and sharing our legacy.
