Impact Report 2021-2022

This spring, after months of collaboration with our community, The Pike School announced new Mission, Vision, and Values statements. That work, which you will read about in these pages, brought our new mission into focus:

“A Pike education ignites a lifelong journey of discovery.”

Every time I read this mission I am filled with a sense of excitement for Pike’s journey of discovery. From our youngest learners who are coming to school for the first time, to our most experienced faculty who are embracing professional development that invigorates their teaching, every day at Pike is infused with the momentum our mission implies.

This year, our Pike community helped us to drive that momentum in truly inspiring ways. And so I am pleased to share this new Impact Report with you. In it, I invite you to learn more about how the community supported Pike this year, the process that helped to reimagine our mission, and how our teachers and students are already putting our newly defined values of Authenticity, Intellectual Ambition, and Social Good into action.

I am inspired by the stories featured in this Impact Report. They demonstrate that Pike’s commitment to transformational education, leadership, and impact is one we share as a community. And they remind me, once again, that when we work together, anything is possible.

With gratitude,

Ashley Marshall, Head of School

A New Mission Ignites Possibility

Living Our Values

Community support makes it possible for us to live our values every day. Here are stories of the impact you had on Pike this year.

YOU celebrated community

Authenticity

Popular games in India. Medicinal properties of common herbs. Design thinking in architecture. Exploring Chinese culture. These are a few of the amazing workshops offered as part of Pike Fest, a day of celebration that gave students across the school the opportunity to engage with globally focused arts and cultural activities. Families, students, teachers, and alums created workshops to share their culture, heritage, and personal passions in a format that was innovative and engaging for students. “Pike Fest was such an important day at Pike,” shared Kindergarten teacher and Pike Fest co-leader Kavita Mundra. “You could see the excitement and curiosity on students’ faces as they encountered new traditions, ideas, and challenges. And having our parents and alums involved added to the impact for everyone; it was such a Pike twist.” Pike Fund gifts support innovative programs, like Pike Fest, that celebrate the rich diversity of cultures and passions that make up our community.

YOU fostered innovation

Intellectual Ambition

Fourth grade teacher, Ruthie McCool, knows how impactful sharing ideas can be. “I am always grateful for the input of my colleagues when I come up against an obstacle,” shared McCool. That feeling sparked an idea as she participated in the Klingenstein Center Summer Institute. “Attending the Summer Institute inspired me to create a new way for Pike faculty to grow how we support each other,” explained McCool. This year, McCool and Upper School History teacher, Mary Machado, will launch a collaborative feedback group at Pike. This group will bring faculty across divisions and subject areas together to reflect on their teaching practice. Through a structured protocol for giving and receiving effective feedback teachers will explore personal areas of growth. “Pike teachers are so innovative,” notes McCool. “I am thrilled to be creating additional ways for us to share our expertise and grow our teaching approaches for all Pike students!” The Pike Fund supports ongoing professional development for every faculty and staff member at Pike, creating lifelong learners who share their discoveries with their students and fellow teachers.

YOU launched a leader

Social Good

In Generation Green, one of Pike’s Upper School clubs, students focus on issues affecting our environment and our world. Students embrace the challenge of researching and selecting their own projects for the year. They have investigated food waste in the cafeteria, an issue near and dear to them, and hosted an Earth Week Upcycling Challenge for their classmates, where they encouraged students to make art out of items usually thrown in the trash. Generation Green projects are imagined and implemented by Upper Schoolers with support and guidance from club coach Dhruti Ashara, Pike's Business Systems Coordinator. "The students have truly embraced our club ethos to 'Be the Solution, Not the Pollution," explains Ashara. "I'm very proud of how they design programs with an eye to teaching and engaging students, faculty, and staff alike so they can impact the entire school." Yearly giving supports clubs like Generation Green where students make their campus community better and in the process are empowered to lead change.

Each year the Pike Fund, provides critical resources to support Pike's mission. Whether you make a one-time gift or a multi-year pledge, your giving impacts transformational education and purposeful learning for every Pike student. With the Pike Fund, you ignite a journey of discovery that lasts a lifetime for the students of today and the future.
