ROWLAND HALL ATHLETICS // WINTER 2022

Upper School Athletics

Winter brought with it basketball and swimming for 53 Winged Lion athletes and a chance to represent the green and white from November through February. And represent they did—and in fine fashion! The boys basketball team went undefeated in league play, capturing the Region 17 championship then moving on to take fourth place in the State 2A Tournament. The girls basketball team took second in Region 17 and played through the second round of the State 2A Tournament before elimination. The girls swim team placed eighth at the State 3A Championships with only five competitors, and the boys team took seventh with a mere four swimmers competing.

Congratulations to our winter sports athletes on these accomplishments, and many kudos to our dedicated coaches whose expertise, enthusiasm, and commitment were instrumental in the successes achieved. Thanks to Zack Alvidrez and Paulino Beach, boys basketball; Bill Tatomer, Ashlee Ostler, and Stacy Martin, girls basketball; and Hope Feliciano and Cole Jackman, swimming—your leadership truly made a difference!

ROWMARK SKI ACADEMY

It was another challenging ski racing season for Rowmark Ski Academy this year due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, which finally began to subside in March. We want to thank Gita Varner for tirelessly guiding our team through protocols and weekly testing, which allowed our team to keep training and racing as safely as possible. We could not have done it without you!

Another heartfelt thank you to our parents for stepping up to the challenge for a second year, for their tolerance of change, and for their teamwork to make this season happen. Also, a big shout-out to our Rowmark coaching staff and to Rowland Hall teachers for their flexibility, support, and professionalism amongst continuous changes to our schedule from start to finish. Not only did we survive, we flourished, which was especially evident at the end of the season, where we had many of our best performances.

It is also important to mention that our local training at Park City Mountain Resort and at the Utah Olympic Park (UOP) provides a comprehensive combination of venues that is second to none. This was our third season of training at the UOP, which has proven to be an invaluable enhancement to our training quality and volume. We appreciate our relationships with both mountains’ management and the incredible generosity of our donors to make the UOP project come to life.
