Through analysing architecture and artifacts archeologist are able to study how, where and when people lived in that area. The Linking Southwestern Heritage Through Archeology (LSWHTA) program allows high school students to explore their cultural histories through field trips and hands on experiences. Students are given the opportunity to visit national parks, monuments, archeology sites and many museums. Most importantly this University of Arizona program helps high school students explore various career options.
The Linking Southwestern Heritage Through Archeology program gave us the opportunity to explore many new places.
Artifacts Explored
While visiting museums and various sites we viewed many archeological artifacts. Some of these artifacts included basketry, potery, jewelry, clothing. One thing that really stood out to me was how resourceful our ancestors were. Everything that they used and needed was made by hand and made with natural elements.
Careers Explored
Students that participated in the LSWHTA program were exposed to various career options. Some of these career options included; archeology, dendrochronology, carbondating, chemist, physicist, zooarchaeology, education, National Park ranger, cultural anthropologist, and linguists.
Student Experiences
My Grand Canyon Experience
Memories That Will Last A Lifetime
Participating in the LSWHTA program was very educational but fun at the same time. For many of the participants this was the first time they went camping, or visited the Grand Canyon. Students got the opportunity to make adobe brick for the first time, dig in at an Archeology site and over all explore sites they otherwise probably would never have visited.
