Ingoldsby Update May 2022

It is wonderful to be settled back in to school with some new faces. We would like to extend a big welcome to those families who have joined us these past few weeks! It has certainly been a busy start to the term so far and we are very much looking forward to an exciting summer term.

Joseph rehearsals at Easter

You raised £97.80 for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal on our non-uniform day.

We have a term of drumming for KS2 from the Lincolnshire Music Service and some children have begun their guitar tuition. If your child is interested in taking up an instrument the link to sign up here:

Learning an instrument is a fantastic opportunity to not only learn a new skill but develop organisational skills and responsibility through practising and remembering to bring their instrument each week.

We have run a range of house competitions this term in football, netball, hula-hooping and art so far! This has been great fun, has got everyone involved and created some healthy competition! It's very close but Dahl is currently the team to beat!

Assessment this term

Well done to the Year 6s who have shown resilience and a can do attitude while taking their sats last week.

Year 2s will be taking their reading and maths papers this month in class.

Year 1 phonics checks and the year 4 multiplication checks will be carried out in June.

Children in all other year groups will complete assessements in class (as usual) in June.

Attendance Matters

The government has released new guidance on attendance which I include for reference:

Good attendance at school is a prerequisite to pupils’ attainment, wellbeing and wider development. The pupils with the highest attainment at the end of key stage 2 (KS2) and key stage 4 (KS4) have higher rates of attendance over the key stage compared to those with the lowest attainment.

We know that the last couple of years have put a huge dent in attendance figures, so it is all the more important that children attend every school day that they can. At Ingoldsby, we are seeing an improvement in attendance overall in most classes and for most students.

Attendance across school by class

Some figures for perspective:

Nationally, at KS2, pupils not meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths had an overall absence rate of 4.7%, compared to 3.5% among those meeting the expected standard.

At KS4, pupils not achieving grade 9 to 4 in English and maths had an overall absence rate of 8.8%, compared to 5.2% among those achieving grade 4.

Among pupils with no missed sessions over KS2, 83.9% achieved the expected standard compared to 40.2% of pupils who were persistently absent (90% or less).

Nationally, expected attendance would usually be at least 95%. Pupils with attendance levels under 90% are classed at persistently absent. The last published figures show that nationally attendance across all primaries was 94.9% on 28th April.

Attendance at Ingoldsby today is 94.9%- in line with national.

53% of pupils at Ingoldsby have attended over 95% of sessions so far this year.

25% of pupils attendance is currently below 90% (persistently absent).

What can you do?

Look on the MCAS app to check your child's attendance.

Keep us informed of any medical concerns or issues that we need to be aware of that may affect your child's attendance.

Avoid taking holidays/ breaks during term time. Please note that family holidays will not be authorised. Fixed penalty notices can be issued to each parent liable for the attendance offence or offences, which should usually be the parent or parents with day to day responsibility for the pupil’s attendance.

Engage with school to improve attendance where needed.

PTFA

As many of our PFTA members are parents of year 6 children, it would be fabulous to see more families get involved. We'd like to arrange a tea party/ cake sale on the last day of term to mark the platinum jubilee (27th May- 2pm) This could be a great way to meet other parents and express an interest in getting involved with school life and fundraising.

As usual, there will be no dance club or wraparound on this day. School will close at 3.30pm.

This will be a non uniform day and we'd encourage children to wear party clothes suitable for a picnic lunch.

Operation Encompass is a partnership between police and schools. One of the principles of Operation Encompass is that all incidents of domestic abuse are shared with schools, not just those where an offence can be identified. We are an operation encompass school.

Edanlincs is a charity that provides support and assistance to men, women and children suffering, or fleeing from domestic abuse.

EDAN Lincs Domestic Abuse Service’s staff members provide a listening ear and can provide information on benefits, legal rights, housing, practical help and emotional support. They also provide counselling for children who witness domestic abuse which we can facillitate in school.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you need support. Myself and Mrs Glendinning are the safeguarding leads in school. We are here to help.
