Trash Art An E-TWINNING PROJECT

The trash art project is a joint school project focusing on how things that seem to have no use anymore can be turned into art.

The students are asked to show their creativity using simple materials.

We divided the students into teams. Turkish students worked on a piece of art from three different countries.

GREEK TEAM

They used newspapers, plastic bags, wires, batteries, glass and bottle caps for this reproduction.

This painting belongs to the Greek artist PANTELIS ZOGRAFOS.

This was the first time they did something like this. They have learned everything by trying and doing.

The students made a research about the famous artists of that country. Then they made decisions about what materials to use to reproduce that painting.

ITALIAN TEAM

They used egg carton, newspaper, bottle caps and palstic bags for this reproduction.

This painting belongs to the Italian artist BRUNO Dİ MAİO.

The students are still working on this painting.

The teams helped each other to give ideas. When something went wrong students who are not the members of this project came to help. They experienced many difficulties but with cooperation they have solved them in every step of this project. This was a real life experience for my students.

Czech Team

They used toilet paper rolls, fabric and beads for this reproduction.

This painting belongs to the Czech artist ALPHONSE MUCHA.

They used toilet paper rolls, beads and fabric for this reproduction.

Sometimes the students were so busy with the creation process that they even forgot to take photos.

We shared what we did with the teachers and the students.

This project aims to prove to the society that recycle has many benefits and that everyday wastes can be excellent art materials.

Although our main aim was to make art from trashes my students wanted to give some messages by using technology and music.

Here is a short video about the feelings of trashes. My student used mobile applications to make these trashes talk.

They have also wrote a song about Trash Art. The lyrics and the music belongs to them.

We have reached out to SELMA GÜRBÜZ who is one of the most important painters of Turkey. She sent us a video which she shoot in her studio.

One of my students made one of her paintings talk and we sent it to her as a surprise.

While we were working on these paintings and videos, a student from Clothing Production Department wanted to join us and she brought us wonderful pieces that she made from trashes.

She used newspaper and cans to make them.

The students worked together with partner countries and tried to create Logo for our project. While deciding on logos they talked about lots of things to know about each other.

Our English lessons became more meaningful for them with this creation process. They wrote song, they shoot video, they communicated with the partner students. They experienced the need for a foreign language.

I want to thank our project partners. The idea of Trash Art belongs to our Greek partner School. They do breathtaking reproductions. We are very lucky to meet them and learn from them.
