A Quick Interview with Arvell Anthony

What brings you joy? Helping others.

What is your motto? Perception is the key to unlocking life.

Who matters most in your life? God. Without God, I am lost.

How would the person who knows you best describe you? professional and reliable.

If you could learn only one magic spell, but it could only do something mundane and boring, what would the spell do? Ability to stop the mind's chatter, so people could have the quiet silence of “peace of mind.”

What was your best drop the mic moment? When I pitched my services to Gilead Sciences and had them hire Vorrei Consulting to help with their R&D Strategic management needs to help create a channel strategy for procurement globally.

Gilead is a top pharma company and a billion dollar organization and this was the largest client I had landed.

What are some goals you’d like to achieve in the next year? I’d like to create more time to be able to spend with my family by growing Vorrei Consulting into a service business that can execute more without my personal man hours.

Who has been your biggest inspiration so far, and why? My Godfather.. he started Priceline.com and has been my mentor. He’s been a father figure to me since I was little.

What would you say to your younger self based off what you know now? Go for your dreams and Do not let logic define your actions when pursuing your dreams. Follow your heart more instead of your logical brain.

What does friendship mean to you? Friendship is family. I don’t tend to have “casual” friends. My friends are those who I consider like family, brothers and sisters. These are people who I prioritize time with and who I will always be there for, regardless of if we are in agreement. Family is there for each other and at the end of the day, on our deathbed, our memories of our time spent with family and friends is all our lives will be.

What is your favorite book and why? Rich Dad Poor Dad - I grew up without a father and my blood related father I consider to be my poor dad. His mindset from what I did get to learn from him, was very much a “play it safe” retreatist perspective where as my godfather (who started Priceline.com) always pushed me to dream big and go after my dreams. I learned first hand the impact ones mindset has on how they view the world.

What does brotherhood mean to you? I have an older brother. To me, brotherhood means connection, support, love (tough love if necessary). A bond not easily shaken or broken.

What childish thing do you still enjoy? Cartoons. Child at heart. Will always enjoy watching cartoons and eating cereal.

What would your 8th Grade favorite teacher say about what you were like back then? Non conformist... not following the crowd. doing what others would shy away from due to the amount of work involved. Always trying to learn, be better and do more. Living life to the fullest.

Do you make other people uncomfortable sometimes, and why? Yes, I have a tendency to tell the truth which can be uncomfortable to some. I ask for the truth, and people can also be uncomfortable sharing their opinions in fear or a negative response.

But I appreciate truth and others opinions. Helps me broaden my perspective.

When did you realize you were no longer a kid (please elaborate)? The day I heard my daughter day “dada”. I have been married for 5 years and been in positions of pressure and managerial roles for years but those never hit me as me feeling like a “grown up”.

But that day, I clearly realized that I am responsible for shaping a young life and am a daily role model to a young woman who will one day be a mother to children of her own.

It hit me... I am no longer a kid, I’m a father.

What’s not to love about you? Some say I am intense. I am always pushing to be better and better. I work hard and I love strong. I don’t let my friends or loved ones surrender to laziness. I am the friend who people turn to for the honest, unbiased objective truth.

Who or what is your nemesis? Fear and doubt. As an analytical thinker, my role has been to see what will not work so a solution can be derived.

As such, I’ve learned about myself that fear and doubt creep in, when I am unable to see clearly a viable solution to a potential problem.

What long shot have you taken that really paid off? I relocated by myself to California to accept a role to manage a project rollout without knowing anyone there except the colleagues that I met during a prior company visit. This one decision led me to meet many new friends, including my current wife, and also helped me grow tremendously from the experience gaining confidence in my own personal abilities.

What is the highest pressure situation you have experienced and how did you handle it? Highest pressure situation would be during my days as COO for a startup Mobile application building company. The roles involved in the running of a startup require the leaders to own the stress of the company.

Managing employees while growing a company, and dealing with cash flow complications, I learned to leverage the collective wisdom of my senior team.

We would all speak openly and honestly, sharing all frustrations and fears, and then agree on solutions as a group, knowing that many employees of ours depended on our strength to persevere through adversity.

If you could add 4 hours to your day, what would you spend those 4 hours doing? Spending more time with my 1yr old daughter.
