Harlem Summer By : walTer dean myers

Harlem Summer is a book about a boy named Mark Purvis. This boy loves to play the saxophone and hang out with his friends.

My Favorite Character

My favorite character was Fatz. I liked Fatz just because he was always happy and generous. He is also a big time music producer.

Plot

A boy named Mark purvis is loving the Harlem life, but one day his parents got a call telling them that they had lost their farmland down south. This farmland was going to pay for Mark's brothers college funds. Now Mark will have to find a job, and work hard just to get his brother into college. But Marks dream is to play the saxophone in a band. Will his desire to play push his parents limits? You'll have to read to find out.

Review

I liked this book because it is teaching you about Harlem and people's struggles. I reccomend this book to 6th grade level of reading just because it could confusing at times. Overall it was a great book and you all should read it eventually.

Least Favorite Characters

I did not like the mother and father of Mark because they were very strict about education and having a good life. They also did not like that he played the saxophone and they didn't want that to be what he did for a living.
