West Hill Primary School Newsletter JUNE 2022

Welcome to our penultimate newsletter of the academic year. There are a few notices for parents and carers. There is also lots happening in the last few weeks of school so please have a look at the photos of recent events including Sports Day and make a note of everything that is going on until the end of term. This includes school trips, a request for second-hand uniform (and therefore hopefully a uniform sale before the end of term), the PTA Friends of West Hill Summer Fair and a secondary school open day for Year 5.

Entry to the school

Please note that the new gate is now in operation on Merton Road. The school entrance on Broomhill Road will now only be open between 8.40am and 8.50am. After this time you must now enter through the main pedestrian gate on Merton Road. Pupils attending Early Birds must use the Merton Road entrance. Thank you.

Hot weather precautions

We are now entering a period of much warmer weather. When it is hot please can you make sure that you apply sun cream to your child's face and ears before coming to school and that they have a sunhat and water bottle (both labelled with your child's name) to use during the school day. Thank you.

Attendance and Punctuality

It is really important that your child is in school every day and on time. School starts at 8.50am so children need to arrive before then to be in their classroom on time.

Belle the Be There Badger is closely monitoring which class wins best attendance each week! Where will he be next week? Which class is going to win best attendance for this term? It's very close at the moment so every attendance mark counts!

100% Attendence

Congratulations to those pupils who achieved 100% attendance last half term and who celebrated with a special tea party. They were:

Aila, Aayan, Aaron, Chloe, Sienna, Amirah, Janelle, Artem, Noah, Ellie-Rose, Testimony, Delfina, Kamil, Maryama, Kane, Rayan, Layla, Jibril, Alex, Zahra, Sasha, Ermia, Madeeha, Abdulhakim, Tyler, Kael, Helen, Haris, Kharell, Blossom, Taliah, Tarlia, Savannah, Esmanur, Jonathan, Bethany, Calleja, Jibril, Daniia, Noman, Kartez, Aurora, Tiana, Freya-Mai, Nermine, Jacob, Rahmah, Ayah, Divyanshi, Adam, Aroush, Alexis, Alyan, Jabir, Rayan, Zakaria, Naser, Manahil, Reuben, Jariyyullah, Salman, Alessandro, Chayce, Nasri, Asmir, Casey, Noor, Macy, Lola, Omer, Duni, Fatima, Raissa, Adam, Rafaella, Sabrina.

Paying for school lunches

Please pay for your child's school lunches in advance. If a lunch account is in debt the school budget has to pay for their child’s meals. This means that money which should be spent on the children’s education is being used to pay for parent debts instead.

If your child has LUNCH DEBT please make sure you pay and if you cannot pay the then you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch going forward until the debt is paid.

Your child's school money account should be in CREDIT at the beginning of each week, so that there is enough money to cover their school lunches for the week. Lunches are £2.60 each day, that is £13 for a week.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Ernest Bevin College is holding an open morning next Wednesday 22nd June for prospective students currently in Year 5. You will be able to find out information about Ernest Bevin College, our pupil experiences and the many extra-curricular activities our pupils participate in. School Trips

It is lovely to see school trips happening again after such a long time. Year 1 had a trip to London's Southbank as part of their Geography topic and Year 4 went to the Peacock Theatre to see a ballet production of Anne of Green Gables. There are more trips happening this term, please check the dates at the end of this newsletter.

Jubilee Celebrations

We were very busy at the end of May with Jubilee activities and celebrations. Mrs Carmen went with Sabrina and Emily from Year 6 to Putney Library to showcase our pupils' Jubilee artwork to our local MP Fleur Anderson and The Mayor of Wandsworth. Fleur then took the artwork to Buckingham Palace and showed it to the Countess of Wessex who was very impressed with what she saw.

We also had a lovely time celebrating the Jubilee on the last Friday of the half term. The children spent the morning doing all sorts of creative work for the Jubilee and getting ready for the picnic with parents in the playground. It was a lovely end to the half term. The Assistant Director for Education for Wandsworth visited in the morning to see what we were doing and loved what she saw.

Book Share Event

Thank you very much to all our parents and carers who were able to attend our Book Share events in the week before half term. We have had very positive feedback from you about your children's books and it is clearly a valuable exercise for you and your children. We will be holding the book share event again next year.

Sports Day

Sports Day yesterday was hot and sunny but the children had a great time armed with hats and water bottles to keep them cool. Here are some photos from Year 2 and we will add more to the website as we receive them. Early Years (Nursery and Reception) Sports Day will be on Wednesday 6th July. More information will be sent out shortly.
