Snacks

All classrooms will offer a snack time during the day. This helps to ensure our students have the fuel needed to have a successful day here at school! Please send in a healthy snack with your student each day! If you're able to provide extra snacks, for students who may forget, we always appreciate bulk snack donations. Thank you!

Hancock County Promise-KINDERGARTEN

Dear Parents!

We hope your child(ren) is enjoying the last few days of summer and are excited about the new school year!!

This email is to share with you information about the Hancock County Promise. The Promise program is a program for Kindergarten students and has been a part of Hancock County since 2017. This year the program has a slightly new look (logo) and with the new look, the steering committee has decided to offer a “catch-up” opportunity for any child that has been a part of the kindergarten cohorts since 2017. So, if your child is currently in grades K-6 (class of 2030, 2031, 2032, 2033, 2034, 2035, and 2036) this year and missed their previous opportunity as a kindergartener to sign-up for the Hancock County Promise this year is for you!

What is the Promise program you ask? The Hancock County Promise GIVES you FREE MONEY for your child!!! Yes, that is correct FREE MONEY for your child!!! I know, you are thinking there is a catch....NO!!! There is NO catch!! If you sign-up, you get a FREE CollegeChoice 529 Direct Account for your child and we will deposit a one-time deposit of $25 of community-donated money into the account!!! Do NOT delay, sign-up Today!

Please visit https://www.hancockcountypromise.com and click the “how it works” page also found HERE. There are only 8 short steps to sign up!

Already have a CollegeChoice 529 Direct Account for your child? Complete The Hancock County Promise form HERE (include your Ugift code) and your child will be part of our program and eligible for all our incentives. Note, you must have a “Direct Account” we cannot link an “Advisor Account”.

If you signed up your child previously for the Hancock County Promise you don’t need to do anything as your child is still a part of the program.

The steering committee is also offering eight (8) random drawing scholarships for $250 each!! More information will be shared soon about this scholarship opportunity.

If you have questions please email or call HCP chairperson Dr. Scott Shipley at scott.shipley@mvcsc.k12.in.us 317-485-3100.

Slides/Flip-Flops

Please be aware of sending your student(s) to school in slides or flip-flops. We are very active here at school, these types of footwear can be difficult for students to play at recess or participate in active learning activities here at school.

REMINDERS

JBS Arrival/Dismissal Procedures:

Below are maps for our arrival and dismissal procedures. Safety is our first and foremost priority during arrival and dismissal. At times safety procedures can be inconvenient to adults, but what is best to keep our students safe.

Arrival:

  • Time: 7:30am-7:45am (students arriving after 7:45am will be marked tardy)
  • Car Riders: A JB Staff member will help your child out of the car in the am. Please plan to have your child on the passenger side of the car; as it is not safe for them to walk between cars. Please do not let your child out of the car until JB staff has come out to release them (at times our buses have to unload earlier than the car riders, please don't take the unloading of buses as a cue to start releasing kids. Please wait for JB staff)
  • Bus Riders: Bus riders will be dismissed by JB Staff. We ensure students safely exit the bus and walk into the school building, where they are greeted by more JB staff.
  • Walk-Ups: If your child requires extra assistance to get out of the car and you choose to park and walk them up to school, please see the map below. This year I am asking parents to walk students across the cross walk (holding hands) and up to the front of the school where a JB staff member will greet them. You may not drop your child off in the parking lot, or leave them at the crosswalk, please walk them all the way to the building (this is a change from previous years due to safety concerns)

Dismissal:

  • Time: 2:10-2:25pm
  • Car Riders: We have a very strategic method to our car rider lines, in order to move them fast. Please follow the arrows on the map (we form 2 lines in the afternoon, so please double up) Please have your car rider tag clearly in the window, if you don't have one, please simply make a sign and put it in your dash with your child(s) name(s). A JB staff member will radio the name of the your child and they will start to exit the building (door 24A). Once an entire row is loaded, that row will be released, we will then load the second row. Please just follow the direction of the JB staff there to assist.
  • Walk-Up: We do have the option for parents to park in the visitor parking lot and meet their child under the JB awning. You do not need to enter the building. The first few weeks of school this takes some time as we ensure we are pairing students with parents. Please be patient. I will continue to offer this as an option, as long as we work together and ensure student safety. Please do not allow your child to run around or wander off as you wait for siblings. Please hold your child's hands as you walk them across the cross walk and enter the parking lot. Cars will be pulling in and out of the parking lot at this time, again, please keep your child safe. I know this is a convenient option for parents, but we must keep it a safe option.
  • Bus Riders: Teachers will walk students out to buses and ensure they get on the correct bus, safely.
  • Day Cares: Your daycare provider will communicate with you the procedures for pick-up.

JB Stephens will be utilizing a new system for changes in student's daily after school transportation. We will use the APP School Dismissal Manager (SDM). This online platform is dependable, easy to use, and will work as a communication tool between parents and the school on any after-school transportation changes. More information will be coming.
