World No Tobacco Day- 31st, May'23 A sincere initiative by LSD DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL, PILKHUWA

Why do we celebrate #WNTD?

This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.

Dear Students,

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirit. To ensure our well-being, it is essential to stay informed and make right choices. In a quote by Mahatma Gandhi- “it is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver." The profound message is we should take utmost care of our health . May 31st every year is observed as World No Tobacco Day, a reminder to individuals and communities around the world about the dangers of tobacco use and the negative impact it has on our health. It’s my ardent wish that you Educate yourself about the dangers of tobacco use and understand the potential consequences it can have on your health. Tobacco use is a global epidemic that affects millions of lives every day. I urge you to be aware of the misleading advertisements and remember you have the power to shape a healthier future for yourselves and generations to come by saying no to tobacco .

Wishing you health and happiness.

Major Outcomes of discussion

1. Raising Awareness: Be Informed-

The session aims to educate students about the harmful effects of tobacco use, including the risks associated with smoking, chewing tobacco, and using e-cigarettes. It provides factual information about the health consequences and helps students understand the dangers to make informed decisions.

2. Prevention: Prevention is better than Cure-

The primary objective is to prevent students from starting tobacco use. By highlighting the addictive nature of tobacco and the difficulty of quitting, the session aims to discourage experimentation and initiation among students who may be considering tobacco use.

3. Health Promotion: Health is Wealth

The session emphasizes the importance of maintaining good health and well-being. It focuses on the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced risk of cancer, better respiratory function, and overall better quality of life.

4. Building refusal skills # Say No to Tobacco-

The session equips students with effective communication and refusal skills to resist peer pressure. It helps students develop strategies to say "no" to tobacco use and navigate social situations where they may be encouraged or tempted to try tobacco.

5. Providing Resources: Helping Hands-

The session should inform students about available resources and support systems for those who are already using tobacco and want to quit. It can provide information about smoking cessation programs, helplines, and counseling services that can assist them in their journey towards a tobacco-free life.

6. Promoting healthy alternatives: Engage in Productive Activities

The session can introduce students to healthier alternatives to tobacco, such as engaging in physical activities, pursuing hobbies, practicing mindfulness, and adopting stress management techniques. It encourages students to find healthier ways to cope with stress or peer pressure, rather than turning to tobacco.

7. Long-term impact: Life-long Changes

The objective is to instill a long-lasting understanding of the risks associated with tobacco use. By providing comprehensive information and engaging students in discussions, the session aims to influence their attitudes and behaviors towards tobacco, leading to a sustained commitment to a tobacco-free lifestyle beyond their school years.
