Religious Education
The goal of the Holy Trinity Religious Education Department is to provide students the opportunity to explore, consider, meditate on, and pursue topics that their otherwise busy schedules don’t often allow for. As a Catholic school community, our primary focus is on Catholic doctrine, Tradition, and history. Holy Trinity religious education teachers recognize and respect that our students come from varied and diverse backgrounds. All are welcome, supported, and respected in Holy Trinity religious education classrooms regardless of religious beliefs or practices.
The Holy Trinity Catholic High School religious education program offers four courses: Religion 15 (Christ and Culture), Religion 25 (Jesus Christ: God’s Gift of Salvation), Religion 35 (In Search of the Good), and World Religions 35. Students are required to receive credit in three out of four of these offered courses to achieve a high school diploma within a Catholic school.
At Holy Trinity Catholic High School we offer a variety of educational experiences in the realm of religious education. Students are encouraged to take Religion 15 in Grade 10, Religion 25 in Grade 11, and either of Religion 35 or World Religions 35 in Grade 12 (depending on personal interest). The pre-requisite for each course is a passing grade in the previous section. All students are required to complete mandatory Christian Service Actions throughout their high school careers as part of their religious education courses. Part of all students’ Christian Service Actions need to be through the HT HEROES program at Holy Trinity Catholic High School. HT HEROES is the Social Justice arm of Holy Trinity Catholic High School.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalm 107:1
Religion 15
Christ and Culture: This course aims to assist students, with the help of the Gospel, to participate in the shaping of our culture. Religion 15 explores major cultural issues from a Christological perspective. Connections between the Church and contemporary culture are explored.
Religion 25
Jesus Christ: God’s Gift of Salvation: This course aims to bring students to a deeper relationship with Jesus through a study of Scripture. Students will explore the Jewish historical, religious, and cultural world into which the Messiah was born, and the Old Testament covenant fulfilled.
Religion 35
In Search of the Good: This course aims to challenge students to understand themselves as moral persons called to discipleship by living the way of Christ. Through an examination of ethical theories, the revelation of Sacred Scripture, and the lived experience and teaching of the Catholic Church, the course invites students to mature as active participants in their faith.
World Religions 35
This course aims to provide a deeper understanding of the beliefs and practices of other major religious traditions. Students explore other faith traditions through the lens of our shared Catholic faith. Major world religions studied include: Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism.
St. Theresa Roman Catholic Parish
As part of their religious education experience at Holy Trinity Catholic High School, all students are expected to attend Catholic Masses throughout each school year. Our Masses coincide with significant events in the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. All Holy Trinity Catholic High School Masses take place in association with St. Theresa Roman Catholic Parish.
