Summertime at LVCA

A Message from Board President, Sharon Zook

Summer is in full swing, juggling camps, vacations, and work...all the while dodging the heat. This summer, you can enjoy a variety of outdoor art exhibits and shows within the county. The “Love Flows” exhibit along the Veteran’s Memorial Walkway that borders the dike will remain until the end ofOctober.

The START summer art program is nearly filled with students looking to continue their art practice over the summer. A recent report found that Covid-19 disruption led to 13-22 weeks of lost instruction time in schools. Summer programming is more important than ever for supporting the educational efforts of our kids. Kids who participate in art show improvements in many other areas of education across the course of their life.

A mosaic mural “Where there is art, there is life” will be installed on our building in downtown Lebanon, with the public invited to participate. Become part of a permanent art installation in the city. This summer, after a year on the waiting list, our roof has been replaced by Gable & Sons. We can stop emptying buckets after every rainstorm. We are planning some upgrades to the gallery, and are thankful to the City of Lebanon for the ARPA funds to offset the lighting costs. Reach out if you would like to participate in First Friday Art Walks or have interest in other areas of art. We are always glad to hear from you.

Finally, some board member changes. Dr. Jane Zendaski recently joined our board. Her background is in medicine, and she participates in the arts through theater and photography. In June, Erik Soulliard resigned from the board after serving for 5 years. We thank him for his monumental contributions to the LVCA organization and promoting our community. Erik continues his work with promotional videos We Are Lebanon, PA and Annubis Productions and plans to volunteer at LVCA.

Sharon Zook, President

START

LVCA is looking forward to our START, or SummerTime ART program this summer 2022. This opportunity will be funded through The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, "Arts for All" grant. Art Club 2022, is a summer season, youth-focused, art experience in a setting that is relaxed and collaborative. It is designed to help students connect and communicate with each other through learning new art skills. LVCA will be holding Art Club July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Click below for more info.

July 18-22 4pm-8pm Mosaic Mural Special Edition "Where there is Art, There is Life"

Installed the week of July 18-22 from 4PM-8PM in order to invite our members & the community after work to participate in the installation.

Youth can register to be a part of the core group meeting daily to learn the basics of tile mosaic installation. All costs for the class & installation have been covered by the Foundation for Enhancing Communities, the PA Council on the Arts, and Thrivent Financial. This year's Mosaic Mural will be installed at the LVCA building located at 770 Cumberland St. Stop by and try your hand at creating a unique Mosaic Mural. Everyone is invited to participate!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

LVCA is starting to expand our programs and activities. We're looking for volunteers and people interested in joining the board. Volunteers could help out by being available at events, teaching a class, hosting on First Friday's, organizing the office space, or helping with summer camp. Serving on LVCA's board is a unique opportunity to get involved with a dynamic and very hands-on community organization. The board members work together to oversee the daily business operations, develop and support new events and programs, and are available for First Friday events and gallery open hours. If you're interested or have questions, please send an email to lebanonartscouncil@gmail.com

Collage Lounge

Collage is a technique of art creation, primarily used in the visual arts, but in music too, by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. (wikipedia)

LVCA will provide all the supplies, but feel free to bring your own magazines, scissors, glue, markers, and images. BYOB

The session is $12 for non-members and $6 for members. Payment accepted at event. Or go to our square site to pay online.

25 Creative Ideas for Collages
