Summer Term Newsletter 2023 Ysgol Gatholig MAIR DDIHALOG

Shwmae bawb, croeso nôl/welcome back!

Welcome back to you all after what we hope was a relaxing break for you and your families. Within this newsletter there are some updates, key dates and links to great resources.

It is wonderful to see the children's smiling faces as they come into school in the morning and lively chatter around the school, the building has become alive with their presence. Due to the lovely weather, the classes will be utilising the outdoor areas more and more. Please apply sun cream to your child before they come to school each day. Also, please make sure they have a sufficient amount of water and a sun hat with them. It is great to see the children starting to come into school in their summer uniform, please ensure the children are wearing suitable footwear (no sandals).

Behaviour Goals and Virtues

As you know, we introduced Behaviour Goals that link with our Catholic Virtues last year so that our pupils can work towards weekly or fortnightly goals. We have started with 'Marvellous Movers' this week and we are constantly encouraging and reinforcing these behaviours. Please see the poster below.

Looking forward

As always, you will find the important dates for this term towards the end of this newsletter. We look forward to welcoming you to school soon. Please note, dates will be added to the list and you will be updated on the newsletter. The dates are also updated on the landing page of the website, please take a look.

ESTYN

On Thursday, 11th May the school's Estyn Inspection report will be published. We are proud of the improvement the school has made over the past few years. I would like to thank everybody involved in ensuring that our school continues to improve; our governors, parents, parish, our improvement adviser, staff and most importantly the pupils. I will share the inspection report on Parent Mail and Twitter when it is published.

RELIGIOUS LIFE OF THE SCHOOL

As a Catholic school in the Diocese of Menevia, we have embraced the Catholic Schools’ Pupil Profile, which teaches the children a set of eight pairs of virtues to be understood and nurtured - enabling them to grow in wholeness as fully rounded individuals in the image of God. The pairs of virtues are:

  • Grateful and generous
  • Attentive and discerning
  • Compassionate and loving
  • Faith-filled and hopeful
  • Eloquent and truthful
  • Learned and wise
  • Curious and active
  • Intentional and prophetic

They will continue to change every half-term; this half-term the virtues are ‘Curious & Active’. The Department of Spiritual Life will have a part to play in the promotion of these values.

Please see the curriculum letters from each class regarding curriculum RE lesson content.

Y Senedd

As you know we have eight departments. The Senedd departments are as follows.

  • Department of Spiritual Life
  • Department of Welsh Language & Culture
  • Department of Communication
  • Department of Expressive Arts
  • Department of Health & Well-being
  • Department of Curriculum
  • Department of Sustainability
  • Department of Digital Competency

Each department have a lead teacher, support staff and selected pupils. All pupils from year two to year six have been selected as a member of a department. The learners lead the discussion and share ideas on ways forward to help benefit our school, the wider community and beyond! Our Senedd allows our learners the platform to become leaders and to give the children the opportunity to develop and apply their skills in real life contexts. They have been given authentic contexts for learning to speak for a variety of purposes and in front of different audiences throughout the year. The departments will be meeting regularly and this will give the opportunity for our learners to share their voice and act on issues that they feel strongly about. We look forward to our learners continuing to lead the way for our school.

IMPORTANT!

The First Minister and Faith Ambassador elections will take place this half-term. Once elected the pupils will have the opportunity to work alongside those currently in post to learn more about the role prior to taking on this responsibility next academic year. Pupils currently in year four and year five will be eligible to apply for these important roles.

Please find a variety of links below that you may find useful during this time. If you would like to have support in a particular area please contact your teachers on SeeSaw and we will try to point you in the right direction.
