Concept
The concept of this project is to create an abstract piece. I decide to take pictures from magazines and books to create a meaningful piece. My piece did not start with a meaning but as I built the picture a meaning started to form. Working with what you find is difficult but by taking it one step at a time you can create a beautiful picture. My piece went through lots of fails to get to the final piece.
Research
This piece was a very hands on piece which I have not done in a while. So my research include inspiration and just experimenting overall. I also brought the picture in to photoshop at the end to make it more cohesive and to add or fix thing that needed to be changed. I have used an exacto knife before but never for art so I learned how to use it and as the piece went on I got better at it.
The meaning of Eyes On You
Anxiety is extremely common and people with anxiety tend to assume people are constant watching them or judging them. The piece is suppose to show that it is normal to feel this way, but it also to help people. If they feel this way I want them to know that the only person watching you is yourself. I also want people who feel as though they always have to be perfect because people are watching them that it is ok to make a mistake, the people surrounding you and judging g you are irrelevant. The people who judge you are the same people who can't do what you do.
Process
Idea
The idea of the project was to take pictures from books and magazines and create a new meaning to the picture. Combing picture to have a new look was the goal. I did not have meaning to my piece at first but as I went on I created one.
Inspiration
My inspiration pieces had a focal point and I wanted to do the same. So I included a person as my main focal point in me piece. He was who I started with and added the people around him after.
Hands on
The hand on process was very repetitive, it consisted of looking through the books and cutting out what I liked and just testing to see where it fit or where I liked it. I started with the background and then added the person and added eyes the trees and background and finally the letters.
Photoshop
Once I finished the hands on process. I brought it into photoshop tofu and adjust a few parts. I started with added the animal eyes in the corner of the windows. I then fixed the lettering because in the cut outs of there word that were distracting were visible. The I fixed the light in the top left corner because it drew you attention there and I wanted your eyes to go every where. Then I added an overall coloring to the picture.
Result
There is a lot of meaning behind my piece. It is the idea of people watching ad judging you. There ae more visible and obvious eyes to represent the eyes from your parents and friends but then there are eyes that are more hidden, like the one covered by a tree in a busy background. Which is supposed to represent the eyes of the hidden, the strangers and the people that talk behind your back. I have the words included to show the meaning for the audience and to also show what the person is thinking.
Reflection
I love how my piece turned out, it has a lot of meaning and is something I relate too. Doing a piece hands on was also a lot of fun and I may doing something similar in the future because it was really nice to get off the computer. I liked doing something different and searching for all the pictures and never knowing what you will find and how it will turn put was a new experience. I would do this again.
