Beehive

The Bumblebees are beginning a new story - The Hungry Caterpillar 🐛. We will be concentrating on nouns, verbs, and concepts within the story. We will be doing lots of exciting activities and hopefully have our very own caterpillars in the Beehive.

F1

This week in F1 we have been exploring the school grounds looking for minibeasts. The children learned where minibeasts lived and what they looked like. They created some wonderful drawing and paintings of what they found. They loved looking at google earth and finding out which animals live on land, and which live in the sea. The children were super excited about drawing their animals and some fantastic artwork was produced.

The children are thoroughly enjoying the new Talk for Writing story of the little gingerbread man although they were quite cross when they had a visit from him, and he left crumbs all over the unit. Naughty gingerbread man!

F2

This half term, we have introduced our new talk for writing story, ‘The Enormous Turnip.’ We wrote instructions to help the farmer grow turnips. We also made turnip soup. First the boys and girls had to use a knife to cut the vegetables, then they enjoyed tasting the soup. They described it as “healthy” and “smooth”. We will be sending a story map home shortly for you to show your grown-ups.

Soup tasting - yummy!

In maths we have been busy ordering numbers. We created a whole class number line and this helped us find one more and one less.

Next week we will be learning about important people at our school.

Year 1

The children have made a super start after returning from the half term break. We have loved creating farm pictures in T4W to help us with our new non-fiction text, 'A Trip to the Farm'. Please ask your child to retell it for you.

In history, we have started to look at the lives of the Celts and are looking forward to learning more about Boudicca.

In RE, we are continuing to look at the life of Jesus and this week have learned all about the miracles that he performed.

Next week, we will be starting our new science topic on materials, where we will be exploring our environment and identifying different materials used.

Year 2

In Year 2 we have explored the miracles Jesus performed and what he was like growing up. In maths we have expanded our knowledge of the 2 and 5 times tables and related multiplication and division facts. Can your child tell you the 5 times table? In DT, we have looked at different fabrics and patterns to help the children design their own glove puppet. The children have enjoyed going on a material hunt as part of their science learning.

Next week, we will be conducting an experiment testing the properties of different materials. In geography, the children will be learning about different climates and weathers across the world, particularly in the UK. In maths, we are starting a new unit on fractions, looking at halves and quarters of an amount.

Every minute counts!

Please make every effort to ensure that your child arrives on time and stays at school for the full day: 8:55am - 3:30pm.

We are having an increasing number of parents requesting to collect their children early, without prior notice, and this is creating a massive problem for the office staff. Please try to arrange appointments outside the school day.

Year 3 and Year 4

Years 3 and 4 have had an exciting return to school this past fortnight.

On March 4th , we celebrated World Book Day 2022 and we saw a huge influx of teachers and monsters coming into Wold! On behalf of all the staff in our Year Group, we would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the parents and guardians for their amazing efforts with the costumes.

In maths we looked at place value and how to count in increments of 25, 50 and 100. This topic has allowed us to do more "hands on" maths using resources and the children enjoyed the challenge of not just answering the questions, but also proving why their answer is correct.

In Talk For Writing we have begun looking at a new explanation text, 'Why do Aliens Travel Around in Spaceships?' and have enjoyed exploring the text and learning it by using actions to help us remember the words. In Talk For Reading, we began looking at the tale of a stargazing mouse in 'Armstrong' and are honing our retrieval and vocabulary skills to help us work out the definition of new words.

In Geography we have started our new topic on Trade, which looks at the necessity, usefulness and intricacies of the process of international trading and what our country offers the rest of the world.

Finally, On Tuesday 8th March we received a visit from two PCSOs as part of our PHSE topic, who gave the children a talk on the signs of anti-social behaviour and gave us some helpful advice on how to stay safe online. The children asked some amazing questions and showed a great awareness of their local area as well as some brilliant e-safety knowledge!

Year 5

Year 5 have had a great few weeks rehearsing for their Hansel and Gretel performance at Hull Minster on the 23rd March 2022. Tickets are still available; it is going to be a spectacular night.

Students from Ainthorpe, Endike and Wold Academy perform excerpts from Hansel and Gretel at Hull Minster.

We have started our Science unit on Light and next week we will be looking at more detail of the structure of the eye. Next week we also have a visit from Sirius Academy to do some Geography work. In T4W, we are continuing with our extreme environment instructions and in T4R we have enjoyed comparing 'The Highway Rat' and 'The Highwayman'.

Year 6

Year 6 are continuing to work towards their SATs in May. Next week is 'Mock SATs week'. We will be holding SATs every morning from Monday - Thursday and the week will run exactly as the 'real thing' in May. This will help children to feel more ready for the SATs and will help staff to see if they need any additional support. Please ensure your child arrives on time every morning as the tests will commence at 9.00am sharp.

Fractions, decimals and percentages continue to be a big focus in maths, reading speed and stamina continues to be a focus in reading - please support your child with these important aspects of the curriculum.

In history this term, we are continuing our study of WW2 and made a start by looking at rationing and the Home Front. In science we are looking at the lifecycle of plants and in RE continuing to learn about Judaism.
