Wow what a way to end the summer 1 term with TT Rockstars Day and wear something gold. We embraced our inner Rock Star and spent some time playing on Numbots.
Thank you to those of you who have continued to attend our Rise and Shine Share a Book sessions first thing on a Thursday morning. This will continue in summer 2.
We enjoyed celebrating the coronation of King Charles this half term.
Literacy
This half term we have continued to focus on our handwriting and sentence writing with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Our writing is starting to shine just like the sun!
Our first unit of writing was based on the story The Little Red Hen. We wrote a retell of the story for our mini apply to show our knowledge of the story and we tried to make it interesting to read by using adjectives. We then made our own bread, it was delicious, so that we could write a set of instructions helping the other animals from the story to make their own bread.
Then we read the stroy We’re going on a Lion Hung, for our next literacy topic. We drew a story map to retell the story.
We wrote a description of the lion for our mini apply, using interested and ambitious adjectives to make our writing interesting. When we return after the holidays we will be continuing with our literacy unit building up to write a retell of the story but with us as the characters going on a lion hunt.
Maths
This half term we have recapped previous learning to deepen our understanding or fill in any gaps that we were not confident with.
.
History
We explored dinosaurs in our topic ‘the land that time forgot’. All children were hooked into our topic from the first lesson when the looked at dinosaurs in the hall.
We looked at the life of Mary Anning, a fossil hunter. We placed the events of her life on a time line in chronological order.
We then compared the work of Mary Anning with that of David Attenborough. We discussed their similarities and differences.
Our final outcome was to create a poster to show our learning and understanding of the topic.
Science
We started the half term exploring weather. We loved learning the seasons of the year through a song. We then made a weather instrument which showed the wind direction.
Towards the end of the half term, we explored materials. We can name different materials, give examples of what they are used for and discuss their properties.
