Class 7 Spring 1

LIRA

This half term in LIRA we have looked at 3 texts. What a Waste, Greta's story & The Pied Piper of Hamelin. We have used inference, reader response and author intent to answer lots of questions about our texts, make predictions & justify our ideas.

Literacy

In Literacy this half term we have created 2 different outcomes. Firstly, we created a Non-chronological report based on Recycling and its issues. We used lots of our Geography learning for our ideas and evidence. We looked at the features of a report, shared some 'WAGOLL,s' and planned out what we would be using in our own.

After this we started on a letter to Mrs Padfield to ask her to get school some recycling bins for the amount of paper we use. Class 7 looked at some great adjectives to use, along with devices such as rhetorical questions, fronted adverbials and high level conjunctions in order to persuade Mrs Padfield.

Maths

In Maths we have been tackling some tricky work. We started with place value and decimals in money situations, moved onto 4 digit addition and subtraction which moved into up to 4 digit multiplication and division. We have also looked at fractions and percentages this half term and solved lots of real life problems involving these.

Topic

This half terms topic was Plastic pollution. We learned about how plastic is polluting some places in the world, specifially looking at Hawaii. The children were so passionate about this and wanted to know what they could do to help. We learned about the 3 R's .. reuse, reduce and recycle.

Science

In science we have been looking at forces. We learned that a force is a push or pull in a certain direction and we looked specifically at contact force. We conducted some tests to see the outcome of certain forces and began testing friction on different objects and surfaces.

French

In french we have been looking at colours and body parts. To finish off our unit we designed a monster then wrote sentences to describe him.

PHSE

In this topic we have been looking at connections: relationships, friendships & emotion's .

RE

In RE we have looked at Christianity with Mrs Copeland.

PE

In PE we have been looking at Gymnastics and trying out balances, travelling movements and

Computing

In computing we have been using publisher to create files. We looked at creating something for its intended purpose...making sure the layout was correct, a good font was used and colour was appropriate.

We have had a brilliant half term and some super learning has been happening behind then scenes! Miss Atherton has loved her first half term settling into Mapplewell :) Thank you for your ongoing support as I settle in, find my feet and learn how to do things the Mapplewell way x
