The social studies department is so excited to announce that Smith students rocked the History Bee and Geography Bee that were held in their social studies classrooms in December and January. We had the following qualify for the regional competition this spring: 195 students for the History Bee, 373 students for the Geography Bee and 11 students who took the science bee on their own and qualified! Students who qualified received a letter stating which bee they qualified for. We are happy that we are hosting the event this year, which should make attending easier on our students and families. Qualified students interested should register using the directions according to the letter. The cost is $45 per bee. Due to the outstanding number of students who qualified we cannot cover the costs of the competition. More details will follow about the regional competition as we near the event. To register for the Invitational In Person Regional History, Geo and Science Bees that will be hosted by Smith Middle School on April 30th- REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Please register for the bee(s) you qualified for as soon as you can using the link https://www.iacompetitions.com/registration/ Lastly, each social studies teacher will have resources in a folder for student to practice and prepare if they want. There is a link with several years of past questions available. We encourage students to use the resource practice questions to start preparing for the bee that they have qualified for! All practice questions, answers and links have been shared on Schoology! We also recommend coming to History Club on Tuesdays in room 21 from 3:03- 3:45 weekly to practice as well. If you have any questions, students should reach out to their social teacher or Mrs. Casko or Mrs. Sebastian.
