Climate: The middle colonies had a mild climate with warm summers and mild winters that were suited to farming and agriculture.
Pennsylvania was one of the Middle colonies, along with New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. The coastal plain region, low-lying hills and river valleys of Pennsylvania were notable for their long summers and mild winters. This allowed for a growing season of 5-7 months. Average temperatures were around 50 degrees F.
Summers were shorter and winters more severe in the upland regions and the Allegheny Plateaus. This gave a growing season of 3-4 months and an average temperature around 45 degrees F.
The area surrounding Lake Erie was influenced by the lake. This resulted in a warmer winter and cooler summer
