My Journey in LSWHTA with Archeology as a Personal By: maria valencia

I am Maria Valencia. I am about to be a senior in Cholla high school. Once I graduate I want to study to become a photographer. I joined the LSWHTA program because I wanted to learn more things about the native live. But also to gain more experience with photography.

I had a connection with both missions because they are both catholic and I am catholic as well.
Who lived here was Native tribes tohono O’odham joined by Yaqui
The connection I have with San xavier is that besides going there for masses is that the creator of it was kino and he is from Magdalena de kino Sonora and that is also were my mom is from and the church that is there is were he’s buried.
Who live here was Sinagua Indians who were pre-Colombian Native Americans. My personal experiance was I couldn’t believe how big it was. It is five stories with twenty room building sheltered high in a limestone.
I had a connection with this place because it reminded me of a time I went to a pond when I was younger. I found it amazing how the cite is important to several tribes of today including many hope clans who trace their ancestors to the settlements.

A connection I had was I was I was surprised with the size because up to two hundred fifty people lived here at one time and the rooms looked so small.
My personal experience to the Grand Canyon was speechless I couldn’t believe it. It was just like everyone explained it would be.
Probably because it was my first time I had a connection so big. But going their with amazing people made it even more special. Also walking their blind folded all the way up to the view made it so mind blowing.
Desert view watch tower was very special to me. Going up the crowded stair case made it so much more exciting. My adrenaline was going so fast. And then the view was amazing.
Who lived here in the Wupatki were Hopi, Zuni, Navajo and other tribes.
I had a very special connection with the ceremonial ballroom because it reminded me of when I would go to Mexico and play soccer in a similar field.
Cliff, New Mexico South West Archeological Preservation Field School was probably my favorite part of actual archeology working because I found this peace of pottery that someone forgot to collect while screening.
This is the project my group and I had to do. They were looking for adobe walls. We had to dig this rectangle. We started at 6a.m. and stopped at 12p.m. We dug 40 centimeters. We unfortunately didn’t find any wall because we were still very high up but hopefully who ever continues does find wall.
I had a very special connection with building this adobe home because we made it the way they use to make it the way it was made back then.
This was my favorite part of all the trips we had because I got to face on of my fears which was getting in a pond that had fishes. I also found a very big dandelion.
