The Manatee by Julia Carroll

Manatees do not deserve to be endangered. We have to do something to help them. Manatees can grow up to 15 feet long. Don't worry, they are sometimes called gentle giants.

Habitat: Manatees live off the coast of Florida. They live in shallow water and they live in warm waters.

Predator/Prey: Manatees are herbivores. That means they only eat plants. Their main meal is seaweed.

Endangered: The manatees are endangered because people drive boats too fast in shallow water. They get caught in the motor of the boat. They get stuck in fishing nets, too.

How Can We Help: People can help by putting up signs that say, "No boats in this area," or "Don't drive your boats in shallow water." You could even put up a sign that says, "No fishing in this area."

I hope you liked learning about Manatees. If you ever see one, don't be scared, they are gentle giants.
