Mule Weekly Recap March 22, 2021

Behind Rittenhouse's Hat Trick, Mules Earn First WIN in the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum

The team swarms Rittenhouse after the game-winner 20 seconds into overtime.

Falling behind 3-2 late in the 3rd period, Junior Lexi Cafiero scored the equalizer with five minutes to play. The Mules wasted no time in the 3-on-3 overtime period, as first year Meg Rittenhouse scored her third goal of the game and treated Colby to its first victory in the new building.

First, the team and I would like to thank Colby for the opportunity to play a couple games this spring. We've been through a lot together this year, especially our seniors and it means a lot to us to be able to compete together. I'm also so proud of the effort from this team, it was so special. To end on a high note with the win in OT will certainly carry forward with us!

After Missing All of the 2020 season, Softball is Back in Action

Despite dropping both games to a strong Southern Maine team, nothing could dampen the mood of the Mules. With the first game knotted 1-1 heading into the 7th inning, USM separated with three runs in the top of the final frame. The Huskies got up early in the second game plating three runs in the first to carry their momentum.

Senior catcher Lolo Niemiec went 4-7 at the plate with two doubles.

The team was buzzing all week and had so much fun playing together and competing again. There was a lot of nervous energy going into the day but we were able to channel that into something positive. The day was so rewarding. We have a lot of great potential and I'm so excited to see what we can do with it this season!

Baseball Begins Year on the Road, Split with Saint Joseph's

In Game 1, Colby went up in the second inning on a 3-run home run by Tommy McGee '21. The Mules cruised to an 11-5 win behind three scoreless innings on the mound to close it out by Elijah Cohen '24.

In Game 2, the Monks returned the favor with a 3-run home run of their own, pacing ahead for a 6-1 win.

It was a great day of baseball for the Mules. It was so much fun to compete against someone wearing different colors. We played 13 great innings of baseball, one inning beat us in game 2, but overall it was a fun and exciting day for us.

Combining Academics With Athletics: A Lifestyle With Professor Kevin Rice '96

As a Colby graduate and one of its most connected professors, Kevin Rice '96 shares the pursuit of balance with his students, inside the classroom and on the field.

It's always better at Colby when we recognize how much we are all working towards the same thing, and what we are working towards is creating the best opportunities we can for Colby students. For student-athletes in season, knowing that everything needs to work in the distinct parts of their lives…the endeavor to be excellent in everything you do really shines through, and I love sharing that with them and showing my support for them.

In the photo to the right, Rice stands with Justin Owumi '14 formerly of the Track & Field team and 2014 NESCAC Champion in the 110-meter hurdles. Owumi also won the Condon Medal presented during graduation for outstanding citizenship and character.
