Climate Action Global goal 13

Climate change is global, and we all must act to protect the planet. Global Goal 13 challenges us to take action and promote solutions to tackle climate change.

What is climate change?

Climate change is a change in global climate weather conditions, recorded over time. The Earth’s climate is changing faster than at any point in history.

What is causing climate change?

Climate change can occur naturally (sunlight), but it is mostly due to human activity including the burning of fossil fuels, which adds heat-trapping gases to the Earth’s atmosphere, deforestation, and land-use change.

Climate change has many effects.

Weather patterns are changing.
Sea levels are rising.
Weather events are becoming more extreme.

Is there any evidence that climate change is occurring?

Temperatures are rising. July 2019 was the hottest month in recorded history.

Can we stop climate change?

Increased investments by countries in renewable energy such as wind
and solar, reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.
Huge investments in public transportation in countries like India and Colombia are helping contribute to energy conservation, land preservation, and reduced air pollution.
More accessible electric vehicles mean fewer vehicles burning fossil fuels on the road every day.
Modern energy grids make everyday consumption more efficient.

How can you take action?

Learning about the leading causes of climate change, global warming, and the impacts of climate-related events are steps in the right direction to tackle this issue.
