Ningaloo Reef-The Paddle

Ningaloo Reef is one of the Earth last ocean paradises, situated 1300km north of Perth it boasts some truly stunning marine ecosystems. The reef is 320 km long and is Australia's largest fringing coral reef, and the only large reef positioned very close to the mainland. It can range from 150 metres to 15 kilometres offshore and encompasses a massive 5,000 square kilometres of ocean with 500 species of tropical fish and 220 species of coral in all. Ningaloo Reef is famous for its incredible reef, superb snorkelling, diving and sea kayaking

We will spend 5 days kayaking and snorkelling in the warm, shallow waters of Ningaloo, and include some short bush walks in the Cape Range National Park. Our base camp, where stay each night, is a secluded spot within Cape Range National Park that included its own private beach and enjoys separation from other camp sites. Swags, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping sheets, and pillows are all provided to ensure maximum comfort and enjoyment. Our base camp is also equipped with fridges, lights, shade and wind shelter and picnic tables.

Once this leg of your journey is complete, enjoy a night of luxury at the 4.5 Novotel Ningaloo Resort to unwind and relax, and a group dinner at a fantastic Exmouth restaurant. The next morning begins after breakfast with another exciting adventure, driving north to stunning Karijini National Park

Karijini- Explore the Ancient Landscape

Karijini National Park offers spectacular rugged scenery, ancient geological formations, tree lined waterways and an incredible amount of water filled gorges that have been carved through rock 2500 million years old. This offers some truly stunning gorge walks, secluded rock pools to swim in, and wild flowers can often be seen in abundance. Karijini also boasts an impressive amount of wildlife such as red kangaroos, rock wallabies, echidnas, dingoes, bats and the rare pebble mouse.

Here we will spend five nights camping in the rugged scenic landscape, with each day bringing a new adventure as we explore the gorges, walk trails and waterholes, and take in the ancient landscape.

Once this leg has finished we drive back down to Exmouth to enjoy another night at the 4.5 Novotel Ningaloo Resort and a final farewell dinner at one of Exmouth's best restaurants.

Full Itinerary

Day 1 - Sunday Aug 28: Complimentary airport pick up (Learmonth) at 11.20, or we can meet in town.
Return to CSK base to gear up. Lunch in park in town (time afterwards to purchase any last minute items).

Sunday PM: Drive to Cape Range National Park where we set up our base camp.
Enjoy a swim at a beach near our base camp. Over dinner tonight we’ll discuss the plan for the next five days of exploring Ningaloo!

Day 2 – Mon Aug 29: We drive to our kayak launch site, and after a safety briefing by our experienced guides our journey is underway! Each day we paddle between 5 and 12 kms, exploring a different section of the stunning lagoon and coastline of Ningaloo Reef. We take morning tea and lunch with us in the kayaks, and try to allow time for relaxing on the beach and taking in the surroundings. And of course, don’t forget the snorkelling! Each day our guides will take you to different and amazing snorkelling sites. Some of these are shore-based, where we land our kayaks on the beach and snorkel from shore, others are ‘offshore’ sites, where we anchor or moor the kayaks and slip over the side into the sheltered lagoon waters. And there’s no need to worry – getting back into the kayak is easier than you think! At days end we park the kayaks on the beach and return in our bus to our comfortable base camp.

Day 3 – Tues Aug 30: Return to where we left our kayaks the previous afternoon and continue our journey. With an average depth of 3m over the length of Ningaloo Reef, the protected waters of the lagoon are perfect for kayaking and snorkelling. Each day brings something new and exciting to experience.

Day 4 – Wed Aug 31: With over 500 species of fish, 300 species of coral, and 600 species of mollusc, there’s no shortage of life at Ningaloo. Did we mention turtles? Rays? Reef sharks? A healthy ecosystem such as that found at Ningaloo Reef supports an astounding variety of animals, big and small, and we’ll do our best to introduce you to as many as we can.

Day 5 – Thurs Sept 1: Part of the beauty and uniqueness of this area is the contrast between the semi-arid landscape of Cape Range, and the productive waters of Ningaloo. The rugged gorges and coastal plain support an amazing diversity of flora and fauna, and we may see euros, rock wallabies, emu, goannas, osprey and echidna to name a few. Today we take the time to explore on land a little, and hike Mandu Mandu Gorge and visit the National Park’s Milyering Visitor Centre, then do a short kayak and snorkel to round out the day.

Day 6 – Fri Sept 2: Another day of sea kayaking and snorkelling Ningaloo.
