Compare and Contrast

Lots of people get confused between horseback riding and pony rides. Pony rides are where an instructor leads you around the ring and you can just relax. Horseback riding is where you control the horse and your instructor tells you to trot or post or and you do it on your own. In both scenarios you are in a ring surrounded by fences. But during horseback riding you're usually in a bigger area than a pony ride. Also, in a pony ride you walk the whole time, but during a horseback riding session you go at different speeds according to your skill. Both horseback riding and pony rides can be relaxing. However, horseback riding requires much more work, skill and strength than pony rides.

Order and sequence

Step 1: Get your horse out of its stall and hook it up to something to keep it in place. Also make sure you have a helmet!

Step 2: Grab the following supplies, curry comb, hard bush and hoof pick.

Step 4: Grab the curry comb and brush in circles all over the horse's coat, and make sure to brush the belly and do NOT go behind or under the horse. Then grab your hard brush and brush in straight lines on your horse's coat. After you've done that you can grab your hoof pick, pick up your horse's hoof and start picking all the rocks out, make sure to get all four!

Step 5: Go get your horse's saddle pad, saddle, girth and bridle.

Step 6: Put the saddle pad on your horse first, then grab the saddle and put that on her/him. After that grab your girth strap it on one side then the other and make sure it's on tight around the belly. Then unclip your horse and put her/him's bridle on. Put on your helmet and hop on, then you're ready to ride!
