Fall Portraits - Tuesday, September 13

Mark your calendars: Adams Picture Day is next week: Tuesday, September 13. Forms will be sent home, but the easiest way to order is through the link below. Questions? You can also order by phone, 815-433-1766.

NEW - Report Absences Through ParentVUE

Parents/Guardians can report student(s) absent via ParentVUE. This feature appears as a blue button titled “Report Absences” on the main page of the app or website. Parents/guardians are allowed to report absences for a single day or multiple days. Report up to seven days ahead of the absence.

For each absence reported, parents/guardians must provide a detailed note explaining the reason. If you are reporting your student as sick, please list the symptoms your student is experiencing. The note will help school attendance staff select the correct attendance code.

This is the new preferred method for families to report absences. If you have a legal or medical document, please provide it to the school attendance staff upon your student’s return to school. Parents/guardians can still call to report an absence at 989-923-6037.

The SEL Corner--message from Mrs. Ferguson, SEL Coordinator

It has been a wonderful first few weeks at Adams! I have had the pleasure of visiting classrooms to share a read aloud with staff and students. In K-2, we read Not So Small at All by Sandra Magsamen and discussed how our unique ideas and talents can act as our superpowers. In 3-5, I shared either The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson or What Were You Thinking? by Bryan Smith. Students shared thoughts and agreed that their differences are positive and considered how they respond in different situations. When reading at home, consider asking your child about a character’s strengths and weaknesses and how that impacts the character. These conversations help your student to become more self aware.

The Sharing Tree Program

The Sharing Tree program, sponsored by the United Way and the Salvation Army, is available again this year. Those in need fill out a form requesting a Christmas gift. Tags are placed on trees around Midland and shoppers purchase the items, which will then be available for pickup from the school. If you would like to fill out a gift request form, they are available in the Adams office. Completed forms are due to the school office by October 3.

Community Christmas Closet

Community Christmas Closet, sponsored by the King's Daughters of Midland, provides clothing for students. If you are interested, gift request forms are available in your school office or on the MPS Community and Student Flyer Boards. Completed forms are due to us by October 15.

Successful Lockdown Drill on Thursday

Yesterday we completed our first lockdown drill of the school year--the first of three that are required. In this drill, we helped students plan what they would do if there were an emergency situation at school. Specifically, we reviewed and practiced three actions: how to lock down the classroom, where to hide in the room, and the different ways to escape from the classroom. We also talked, before and after the drill, about how it made us feel and who we could talk with if we felt that was necessary. Per state law, we will have two more lockdown drills later this school year. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out and ask. Our students and staff did a great job during the drill--thank you and way to, Atoms!

Lost Ring?

We still have a ring in our safe that was lost on the school grounds during the 2021-22 school year. We would love to return it to its owner! It's a very distinctive ring--if you lost one last year, please call the office to describe the ring so we can return it to you.
