Tornado Women's Tennis 2022-23 season preview

After winning three of their four fall matches, including two straight to close the campaign, the King University women's tennis team is aiming to carry that momentum into the conference season this spring.

TOP RETURNERS

DENIZ AYTUN

5-7 | So. | Talavera de la Reina, Spain

  • Went 7-9 in singles play as a freshman, playing the entire season at the top flight
  • Compiled a 4-12 record playing at no. 1 doubles
  • Started her King career with three consecutive singles wins
  • Named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week during the fall season

MISHKA KORICINOVA

5-3 | So. | Bratislava, Slovakia

  • Went 10-6 at no. 2 singles during her first year on campus
  • Posted a 4-12 record in doubles play
  • Won four of her six matches during the fall

MIREIA MAS ORTEGA

5-4 | So. | Torello, Spain

  • Posted a 4-10 record in singles play during her first season, including a 3-6 record at no. 5 singles
  • Won her final two singles matches of the fall
  • Went 3-11 in doubles action
  • 3-1 in doubles play during the fall campaign

HEAD COACH

Rodger Acklin

Acklin joined the Tornado staff in the summer of 2020 following a three-year stint at Lees-McRae College. In that time, he led the women's team to 25 wins while improving the men's win total. A Bristol native, Acklin has been teaching tennis for most of his life as he was the assistant tennis pro at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club.
