UPDATE FROM NURSE JESSICA

As school is now in full swing, so are all of those nasty viruses (including Covid). If your student is not feeling well, please keep them home. Monitor for signs and symptoms of Covid (sometimes symptoms are as little as congestion, sneezing, sore throat or headache and are easily confused with allergies or a cold). If symptoms are present, a Covid test is needed. If positive for Covid your student must quarantine for 5 days (test date/start of symptoms is day 0) and your student may return to school on day 6 if symptom free but must wear a mask until day 11. Please reach out if you have any questions or need resources for obtaining a Covid test.

7th and 8th grade parents- your students are required to receive the Tdap and Meningococcal immunizations during their 7th grade year. If your student has not yet received these, please do so as soon as possible and send in a copy of the vaccine record. These immunizations, as well as any other missing immunizations, are needed by September 30th per our district handbook to avoid being excluded from school.

MESSAGE FROM MRS. PLEGGE

It has been fun getting to know all of the 6th graders and reconnecting with 7th and 8th graders so far. One goal for the beginning of the year is to help students adjust to their new routine and environment and help them all feel connected in our building.

We have been able to talk with each grade level how we can support students in our building. We have kicked off the Student Advocate Program along with CharacterStrong this week. Both of these programs promote a greater sense of well-being and give students the resources they need to advocate for their success.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. In addition if you are needing any assistance with food, hygiene or other supplies please complete the form below. The Cardinal Market can provide meals to take home or snacks for students during the day.

Update From The PrinciPALS

Mr. Thomas: It has been a great start to the school year. Seeing so many families at Back To School Night and our Meet The Cardinal Cookout was amazing! We are excited about the school year! Please let us know how we can help better partner with you to help your child be more successful! We want to have an open communication with all of our families. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach. Our contact information is listed below.

Be the on the lookout for EMS Enrichment Programs Later This Month! Our goal is to get ALL students involved in something at school that is outside of the 8:00-3:25 classroom. Being involved always leads to more success!

Mr. Pattison: EMS will kick off fall sports this week. 7th & 8th volleyball had contests on Monday against Woodland Spring. The JV and V teams worked very hard and had some close games. C Team volleyball is competing on Tuesday in Ottawa. Volleyball will play again on Thursday against Louisburg at Louisburg Middle School. JV starts at 4 PM.

EMS XC will run on Thursday at Wyandotte County Park (Hosted by Basehor-Linwood). This will be the start of the XC season. The EMS XC Team has a large group of students out this season. I am very excited to see them compete. The first race starts at 3:15 PM.

EMS 7th & 8th Football will travel to Spring Hill on Thursday. This will kick off the football season for the Cardinals. 7th grade will play at 4 PM followed by 8th grade.

It was great to see all the support on Monday at the volleyball games. Thank you to all that came out to support the Cardinals. Thank you to the EHS Lady Cardinals Volleyball Team for supporting our middle school volleyball team as well.
