This week has been Mental Health Awareness Week. Both children and staff have been connecting with nature this week.

Housepoints

School life

This Well-Being Wednesday saw Year 3 and Year 4 painting rocks to create an Art Adder (the snake of rocks) to put around school

After a story with Year 1 and Year 2 children on Wednesday, I suggested they go outside and look at the clouds and connect with nature. I got some fantastic pictures back, look at what you can see just by looking at clouds!

It was also great to see those of you at home as well as those in school join in our Celebration Assembly this week. Well done to you all!

School council updates

This week saw Olivia and Ben lead the KS2 school council. The children have been coming up with some fantastic suggestions for how we can improve play at Galley Hill, as well as what they would like to see in the revamped library. Here is their write up of the meeting:

This week, school council have met up with the Head Boy and Head Girl to create some ideas about how to improve the school library and the playground. All the ideas were fantastic and we hope to put some into effect. Some of the ideas for the library were: More books, increasing the amount of comfortable areas to sit, and decorating it to become more welcoming and colourful. Some ideas for the playground are: Opening more boundries, attaching swings to trees and a climbing frame for the children on the playground. We can’t wait for next week’s meeting to share all the wonderful ideas and hopefully get to put them to use.

Thank you, Olivia and Ben

OPAL

This week has seen some tree climbing, some exploration, resilience, laughter, dancing and problem solving. All these characteristics are helping the children in school be ready to learn when they are back in the classroom. It is also a real joy to see how they are growing in confidence, trying new things and developing new areas in the school grounds.

There is plenty more to come as well!

wraparound

If you require wraparound provision please email wraparound@galleyhillprimary.co.uk to book your place for breakfast and afterschool provision. Please can we ask that you do have a booking, as there have been several occasions where we have had children on a morning without a booking. We try to be as flexible as possible, but booking is essential to ensure we have the correct staffing ratio and food. Thank you.

Finally

This week saw the KS1 bubble have to isolate. They have been a real credit and have accessed the remote learning with a real desire. It has been wonderful to see so many of them engaging.

I would also like to thank all the parents of the children in Key Stage 1. It is not easy having to juggle work, childcare and home life, as well as dropping siblings off at school as well for some. Again, thank you for your continued support for ensuring siblings are in school, as well as those at home accessing and engaging with remote learning.

Have a fantastic weekend. Take care and stay safe,

Mr Anthony McGeeney
