Tyler wins the fourth women's tennis title in the last five years, 21st overall
Tyler (TX) earns its 21st NJCAA DI Women's Tennis Championship in program history, marking its fourth national championship title since 2017 The Apaches claimed two singles flight titles and runners-up in singles flights No. 3-6 and doubles flights No. 1 and 2 on their way to the championship. This year's championship was one of the closest in recent memory, as Tyler only claimed the title by one point over Hillsborough (FL).
Second-place finisher Hillsborough claimed two singles flight champions and two doubles flight titles. Third placer Seward County (KS) earned a singles flight title and a runner-up No. 3 doubles champion.
Anzalotta and Martins win singles flights No. 1 and 2
Tyler came to defend its national title in 2021 and came out strong. As a team, the Apaches saw each of their players in the singles flight finish in the top-2.
Sophomores Destinee Martins and Lauren Anzalotta won the top two singles flights for Tyler. Anzalotta defeated Seward County's Justine Lespes in the singles flight No. 1 title by a 6-2, 6-2 final. Martins claimed the singles flight No. 2 title over Hillsborough's Ita Habekovic 6-0, 6-2.
The duo also finished as the runner-up of the No. 1 doubles flight, losing to St. Petersburg sophomores Valeriia Cherfus and Naomi McKenzie.
Hillsborough claims second straight second-place finish
Hillsborough returned to prominence, taking second place for the second straight year. The Lady Hawks came up just one point short, losing to Tyler 46-45 in team point totals.
Freshman Viktoryia Zhadzinskaya and Esmee Andresen each claimed a singles flight title. Zhadzinskaya claimed No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3 over Kelly Arends of Tyler. Andresen won the No. 5 singles flight 6-4, 6-3.
The Lady Hawks also earned the No. 2 and 3 doubles titles, winning the most flights of any school in the field.
Seward County takes home third overall and one singles title
Seward County earned its best team finish in school history and the third top-5 finish of all time. Freshman Jimena Ramirez claimed the No. 6 singles flight with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Yeya Kramarova of Tyler.
The duo of Ramirez and freshman Alejandra Sandoval finished as the runner-up in the No. 3 doubles flight.
