Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Retold by Janeth Marquez
A year ago, Sir Gawain, one of KIng Arthur's knights took the ultimate challenge; he was gonna fight the Green Knight. He had to strike him in the head with his own axe and a year later, the Green Knight had to do the same to him. Now, it was the time for Sir Gawain to go out and find the Green Knight and keep his word.
Sir Gawain mounted on his horse, Gringolet, and went on a journey to find the Green Knight. His journey was not easy, until he stumbled upon a castle.
The king of the castle agreed that he would let him stay if he gave him gifts of what he had in return. The king's wife gives him a special girdle that protects whoever is wearing it from death. He doesn't give it to the king in return and leaves with it to see the Green Knight.
Sir Gawain goes out to find the Green Knight and calls him out, ready for the challenge.
The Green Knight comes out prepared for what was to happen next.
Sir Gawain kneels and the Green Knight swings the axe, barely cutting Sir Gawain in the back of the neck as he flinched. The Green Knight mocks him for not being brave. He repeats it two more times.
After the third one the Green Knight reveals that he is the lord he stayed with at the castle! He struck him 3 times for not returning the girdle but make him keep it to remind him of his sin of not returning a promise.
Sir Gawain returns home to King Arthur to tell him of his adventure and that he will always wear the green girdle as a reminder of his failiure.
