HEADTEACHER'S UPDATE Spring Term Week 1

Dear Parents,

We had a great start to the new term yesterday and it was lovely to see all the children happy to be back, enjoying catching up with their friends and sharing the excitement of the holidays. We also enjoyed seeing everyone who joined us for the Welcome Back Coffee at the start of the day.

The morning began with a whole school assembly to wish everyone a Happy New Year and to look forward to our exciting plans for the term, including an introduction to this term's new Theme of Investigation: Systems and Structures. Children from Little Griffins all the way up to Year 6 confidently shared their ideas and opinions on the statements and questions asked and I look forward to seeing these develop in their lessons over the coming weeks. The curriculum overviews for each year group for the term will be available on the website next week.

Finally, I would like to ask Prep School parents to give a gentle reminder to your children to make sure they come to school with all the equipment they need for their lessons. We have had a few in Prep School not having the right stationary, so please could you use the weekend to check they have everything. Pre-Prep parents do not need to worry as we provide them with everything.

Western Elms Parking Restrictions

Please be aware that from 18th-23rd January there will be parking restrictions outside the Western Elms gate and number 60 Western Elms due to water mains works being carried out. You can use the rest of the road but please avoid parking on Baron Court and be considerate of our neighbours.

After-School Clubs Timetable

Our After-School Clubs programme kicked off this evening with a good turn out from our children, excited to get stuck into some new activities. You can now find the Spring Term clubs timetable on the website if you need to check dates and timings for your child's activities.

After-School Care & School Bus Bookings

A reminder to all parents that if you need to book your child into After-School Care or onto the school buses it is helpful for us to know by lunchtime on the day. We will always try to accommodate emergency requests but for day boarding the children might miss out on a snack as the food is prepared at lunchtime.

Little Hatchlings Stay & Play

Next Thursday sees the return of our Little Hatchlings Stay & Play sessions for children aged 0-4 years old and their parents or carers. If you would like to attend but haven't before, they run from 9.15am to 10.30am in the school hall and are a great way to connect with other St Edward's families and members of the local community. The friendly sessions full of fun activities will now be run by our Early Years and Drama specialist, Amy Rush. You can read more and sign up using the form on the web page linked below.

Stevensons Uniform Update

The Reading branch of Stevensons is now expected to be closed until early March following their recent flooding problems. The click and collect service will continue to be available on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10am and 4pm and online orders will be fulfilled as normal. Any further updates will be available on the Stevensons website.

Little Griffins - Year 2: Pangbourne Woods Dates

There have been changes to this term's trips to Pangbourne Woods for pupils in Little Griffins to Year 2. The updated information is available on the school calendar linked below. Please check this carefully so you know which days to send your child in their PE kit and with their wellies in a bag ready for their morning trip.

LAMDA Sessions - Spring Term Dates

We are looking forward to LAMDA sessions starting again next week. Please note the new timetable and ensure children are ready with their folders on the following days:

  • Year 1 (new starters): Thursday
  • Year 2: Thursday
  • Year 3: Tuesday
  • Year 4: Tuesday
  • Year 5: Tuesday

The Autumn Term exam results are not available yet. You will be notified when they arrive. The next exams take place on Sunday 26 March, with a mock exam on Sunday 19 March. Entry forms will be sent out to those who are ready in the next couple of weeks, so please make sure practice takes place over the weekend. If you have any questions, please contact amy.rush@stedwardsprep.com

Finally, Curriculum Overviews with all the information about what your child will be studying will be going up on the Website on Monday.

Have a lovely weekend.
