This example Adobe Spark page outlines all the questions you need to answer in your own Study Abroad Page. By answering these questions and submitting your completed page, you will receive credit for Explorations Beyond the Classroom (EBC) requirement.
To receive credit, you must complete ALL THREE sections as outlined below.
This example uses stock images from Adobe Spark (see instructional video for more details on how to credit outside images). However, it is a good idea to upload images from your own trip on your page in order to personalize the page and showcase your personal experiences.
You may also feel free to add additional media, including photos or videos, if you like.
Part 1: Before You Study Abroad...
Before you leave for your study abroad experience, write 3 paragraphs here, reflecting on the following questions:
- Why have you chosen to study abroad?
- What do you expect to learn during your educational experience abroad?
- What are your personal and academic goals that you would like to accomplish while abroad?
Part 2: The Study Abroad Experience
While overseas or upon your return, write several paragraphs explaining the work (coursework, research, internship, etc.) you did while studying abroad, as well as the connections you were able to make between your coursework at UNCW and your international experience.
Part 3: Reflection
Write 5 paragraphs critically reflecting on your expectations prior to going abroad (re-read your writing in part 1 above) and the work that you did while studying abroad (re-read your writing in part 2 above). Address the following questions:
- What specific steps did you take in order to attain the goals you had prior to departure?
- What were the most significant challenges and how did you address them? What factors made you more effective?
- In what ways did your attempts to attain your goals proceed as expected, based on your earlier understanding, and in what ways were you surprised?
- How did this experience reveal your own attitudes or biases toward other people? Have you made changes or do you need to make changes based on those insights?
