Introduction/Organization
My name is Genesis. My favorite type of art is graphic design, the some used on advertisements and day to day things. Things that will go into this portfolio are my sketches, classwork, and other projects I work on throughout the year! Possibly pictures of other work as well. I have two cats, one is a boy named onyx and the other is a girl named diamond. I love to paint, sketch, draw, and even do digital art.Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
September Update
This month I believe I was best at creating original art, and developing skills in the process. I was able to use oil pastels for the first time, and create more unique skills to use along with my knowledge coming into this class. For example, in the upside down drawing where we were able to color, I used oil pastels and learned for the first time how to blend and draw with them. I created original art with the hand drawings, which I believe was my best work this month. Doing this was able to use creativity and my own skills in contour to create hands.
October Update
This month I developed skills I haven’t used in my watercolor and skill building. I have not made a big painting or learned multiple techniques at once with such a material, and there were some risks I took. I consider myself a talented artist, but in general when trying things I haven’t used before it’s scary, because you don’t really know what you’re doing. But this month, after being nervous everything would come out bad, I tried to trust myself a little bit more. Communicating and learning new skills are to be thanked, because if I had not utilized my skill builder I’m sure I would still be as anxious. As a talented artist it’s hard to do things you know you’re not good at. Learning watercolor however was still fun even if I had not done it before, and it was a good experience. Furthermore, I think I used skills I already learned to create bigger pieces of art that I’m proud of.
November Update
I believe this month was the most creative month for me, and the most enjoyable so far. I loved working with pottery since I had not done so since middle school, and it humbled me in a way. Pottery seems easy at first, but you have to know before you begin that it most likely won’t turn out perfect. Reflecting on how I did with pottery I am proud, because working with it those skills need to first be developed. It would have to take working with it and getting to know it better to truly make something straight what I was thinking. Secondly, the colored pencils were not my favorite. As a whole it was a good experience being my first time using them properly, but I didn’t not enjoy using them. They took much longer than I had initially thought, and I am glad that I tried them but it wasn’t my favorite and I have learned something new from it.
December/January Update
Even though it was a slow two months, I felt like I learned how to take my time and stop when I needed to. Being able to reflect everyday made me feel more confident with my soft pastel piece, and it was the most fun I had working with something new. It felt calming to have a piece of mind and be able to stop when I wanted to, and finish when I needed. On the other hand, when we began painting disco balls, I liked working and finishing faster for a more abstract disco ball. It wasn't perfect and I didn’t want to look too far into it, which helped with its overall appearance and how well it presented as a disco ball. This month was fun and I was able to take risks and just allow myself to be happy in any situation, whether it came to a piece I really care about or just something quick and to learn. Refreshing my skills on acrylic and learning something new in the process was a good experience for me these two months.
January/February Update
These two months I was able to learn how to use ink and continue my knowledge on perspective. With ink I developed skills to add to drawings like watercolor paintings, even though I am not fully skilled in writing calligraphy. I was able to solve my problem of not developing as fast when it came to handwriting by using a skill I already had, which was using the ink to draw instead. I also continued my knowledge on perspective, which completely helped my view in art and I reflected on past art as well.
