Events
This term, we have joined together as a whole school to mark special events in the calendar.
It was wonderful to walk along to St Peter's Church and be joined by family and friends to enjoy our Harvest Service together.
We congregated on the Headmaster's Lawn for our Remembrance Service.
It was lovely to see our older pupils pair with younger children to lay a wreath - each containing a fact about World War 1.
The Service proved the perfect finale to the lessons and activities that had gone on during the week, with pupils of all ages recognising the importance of Remembrance Day.
Everyone enjoyed wearing odd socks for the day to mark Anti Bullying Week...
...even Mr Wyld!
Topics and Trips
Years 3 and 4 travelled to the Magna Science Adventure Centre.
They enjoyed exploring and took part in lots of exciting workshops.
Year 8 went on an art trip to Burghley House.
They made wire dragonflies and spent time sketching and touring the sculpture gardens.
A fun-filled day was complete with lots of laughter when a dog came along and ate Huxley's sandwich!
Year 2's topic, Woodhall at War, was brought to life at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln.
The interactive displays proved very popular with everyone taking their role on board the Lancaster crew very seriously. The room went very quiet as they carefully listened to instructions over the headsets as they tried to navigate their way home while avoiding enemy fire!
It was a beautiful Autumn day for Year 5's fieldwork trip.
They investigated the river from source to mouth, starting at Snipe Dales and following its course to Gibraltar Point.
Our Reception and Pre-School children went on a trip to Kirkby Moor to look for fungi and spot signs of Autumn.
Our Nursery and Pre-Prep pupils joined together to learn all about Hinduism.
It was a jam-packed day where the children enjoyed hearing about the Hindu Festival of Light, learning about Hindu worship and some of the many gods of the Hindu religion.
The highlight of the day for many of the children (and teachers!) was participating in Indian Folk and Bollywood style dancing.
Years 3 and 4 had a great day learning about the Tudors on their visit to Burghley House.
Following the visit, Year 3 wrote Thank You letters. Hetty C produced a fabulous letter describing her visit. Part of her beautifully written letter is shown below...
Sixteen of our musicians went of an ‘American Adventure’ as they took part in Oakham’s Prep Schools’ Music Day.
They spent the day with fellow musicians rehearsing up to five pieces before performing a concert to their families.
Year 7 pupils travelled further afield and enjoyed a wonderful week in France.
We looked forward to receiving their daily updates!
Getting Competitive!
Budding mathematicians travelled to Witham Hall for the A1 Maths Challenge Day.
Their skills were put to the test with team challenges along with crossword, logic, shuttle and quick-fire rounds!
Fingers were at the ready when eight Year 6 pupils travelled to Uppingham to compete in the On the Buzzer general knowledge quiz.
Here at school, we held our own Spelling Bee Competition with everyone eager to win points for their Set.
Overall results were White Set in 3rd place, Blue Set in 2nd place and the Spelling Bee was won by Red Set.
Bookworms!
As ever, everyone was excited to visit the Travelling Book Fair to choose from hundreds of different books.
We are thrilled to announce that £633.53 from the sales of the books will be invested in our own library provision.
It was lovely to see our recent book donation had made it all the way to a school in Nepal to be enjoyed by fellow bookworms!
The school in Nepal has been able to conduct teacher training on how to use the books for both guided and independent reading.
Boarding
Along with welcoming our new House Parent, Mrs Warwick-Smith, we also welcomed new members to the Boarding House.
Peyia and Jenson were chosen as House Captains.
Grayson, Mrs Warwick-Smith's son, is a very popular visitor...
...along with Lola, the dog!
With job roles and responsibilities established, there has been lots of time to enjoy trips and activities!
With everything from Kinema trips and hot chocolate at The Tea House in the Woods...
...to pool parties and celebrations...
We've also welcomed the youngest members of the school to join us for Taster Evenings!
Remember to book in for Boarding Nights. All our planned activities can be found on the school calendar:

Forest School
We welcomed new children to our Forest School and reminded everyone of the rules of the woods and fire safety.
A berry walk reminded us all of which berries are safe to eat!
Everyone enjoyed learning to use clay for lots of different projects.
We took time to remember Her Majesty The Queen.
Learning new culinary skills is always popular and this term has proved no exception.
With everything from apple and pumpkin crumbles to butter making and toasted panettone around the campfire.
We celebrated Halloween and Bonfire Night...
..and showed great perseverance when it came to lighting our own fires!
Well done Persevering Parrots!
We have been creative and learnt new skills.
We marked National Tree Week by each planting an acorn.
The squirrels in Mr Wyld's garden may have been a little cheeky and stolen a few but Miss Reynolds and Mr Nicholl came to the rescue and replanted them - just don't tell anyone!
It has certainly been a busy (and fun!) Autumn Term in the woods...
...now we are ready for the warmer weather though!
Sport
We were thrilled to be Finalists for the Active School Award at the Lincolnshire Sport & Physical Activity Awards 2022.
The Active School Award recognises schools that has pro-actively encouraged pupil participation in sport and physical activity. It celebrates schools that have made an outstanding contribution to their pupils or used an innovative approach in the delivery of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and wellbeing
We've definitely been Active - come rain or shine!
In Cross Country we braved the elements and celebrated some fantastic performances!
In Rugby, we have enjoyed a range of fixtures...
...and even hosted our own Rugby Festival.
Hockey fixtures have also seen us travel across the county for a variety of matches, including to the U13 IAPS Qualifiers.
We also hosted our own Hockey Festival...
It was a great atmosphere on poolside for our first swimming gala of the year.
We welcomed U11 teams from Highfields, Wellow and St George’s Prep. With over fifty competitors there was an abundance of spectators so as you can imagine poolside was not a quiet place!
Christmas
Christmas preparations began with everyone eager to win the Cauliflower Christmas Card Competition.
Mr Wyld and Miss Henderson had the very difficult task of trying to select the winners from a wonderful array of designs.
Well done to Penelope whose card was chosen for the School Christmas Card.
'Music at The Inn' proved the perfect festive morning for our musicians.
Our musicians travelled to The Inn at Woodhall Spa for an informal Christmas performance.
We were delighted to welcome so many supporters.
Year 6 made their own Chemis-trees! They loved receiving everyone's votes.
Team D was crowned the Winner and Team E the Runner-up.
Organised by White Set, Christmas Jumper Day in Aid of Save the Children, was a huge success!
No Christmas would be complete without the annual trip to Crazee Bongos for our Nursery and Pre-Prep children!
After a busy day of sliding, scooting, crafting and jumping, there was even time to meet a very special visitor...
The Boarding House was decorated for Christmas.
With and evening of Christmas crafts...
...and Carol Singing in the village!
A lovely evening was had peforming our Christmas Concert at St Peter’s Church.
From traditional carols and solo performances to ensembles and our very own pop choir – all of our musicians should be incredibly proud of themselves.
The Honky Tonky Donky Nativity was simply superb!
Well done to everyone in Nursery and Pre-Prep!
Christmas Lunch was lots of fun!
Thank you to Mr Wilson and everyone in the kitchen for making such a delicious meal for us all.
A beautiful Carol Service was the perfect finale to the end of term.
Thank You and Happy Retirement!
At our Christmas Lunch we all joined in thanking Mr Hainsworth, our Site Manager, and wished him well for his retirement.
Simply, a BIG Thank You, Peter!
You have been a huge part of school life and will be greatly missed.
Enjoy retirement - although we know you will be kept busy. We hope to see you as 'Grandad' on the touchline!
