On Friday March 11th, Eliza Cardwell and Kolya Markov-Riss competed at the Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama! Eliza competed in the 60 Hurdles and Kolya competed in the 800.
Eliza Cardwell racing the 60 meter hurdles
Eliza was the first Mammoth to compete on Saturday, running in the first heat of the Women's 60 Meter Hurdle Prelims. Eliza got out of the blocks well and competed hard the whole way through, crossing the finish line in fifth place in her heat and fifteenth overall in a time of 8.85 seconds!
Kolya Markov-Riss (5) running the 800
Kolya competed in the first heat and got out well and positioned himself with the race leaders at the front of the race. Kolya pushed the pace as the race went out slowly and continued to stay at the front of the field through the first three laps of the race. With the ring of the bell signifying one lap to go, Kolya pulled up close with the race leader and kicked hard through the finish line, finishing fourth in his heat in his second-best time ever, running 1:52.6! Kolya placed twelfth overall, a fantastic finish in his first time competing at Nationals.
We are so proud of Eliza and Kolya for competing well at Nationals and for their fantastic indoor seasons!
NEXT UP for the Mammoths is the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant University on Saturday, April 1st where the Mammoths will kick off the outdoor season!
