Divine Laws for Living How these divine laws can help us to live with more freedom?

The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testament are the written words of God, the revelation of God’s will. The Scriptures reveal and teach that three eternal and equal persons are united in only one God. These three persons were united at creation:

Genesis 1:1,2; 26 (NIV): 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

They were together also in the plan to save man, sending the Messiah and caring for His people.

Matthew 3:16–17 (NIV): 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Even though the Bible is the word of God, it was written by chosen men “inspired by the Holy Spirit”. There is also a portion that God Himself wrote, the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 31:18 (NIV): 18 When the LORD finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.

1. How many people should keep God’s law? (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

2. What are some functions of the Law? (Romans 3:20)

Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

Faith in the sacrifice of Jesus as the only way to receive salvation does not invalidate the Law (Romans 3:31). Jesus Himself said that He didn’t come to abolish or to set aside the Law (Matthew 5:17), but to fulfill in his life of perfect obedience to the commandments of God (John 15:10).

3. In what way did God summarize the significance of the observance of the Law? (Matthew 22:37-40)

Jesus said to him, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”.

The Decalogue consist of two parts: the first four commandments tell us of our responsibility to the creator, and the last six tell of our responsibility to others. Therefore the summary of the Law is the love to God and to man.

4. In what ways can we demonstrate our love to Jesus? (John 14:15)

If you love me, keep my commandments.

Through the Holy Spirit we are born again, and He writes God’s Law in our hearts. This is how we receive the power to live a holy life. Would you like to experience this new life?
