Stephen Tindall was born in 1951. He attended Takapuna Grammar School and two universities, AUT and Massey he got a Diploma of Management from the Auckland Institute of Technology (AUT). This set Stephen up for a good life.
Tindall founded The Warehouse in 1982 and The Tindall Foundation in 1995 after 12 years of working with retailer George Court & Sons as Merchandise Director. Tindall wanted to create a business unlike the big department shops, without overpriced items but with realistic prices and good quality items. The Warehouse started off as a red shed on the side of the road unlike all the high street shops and department stores, it had concrete floors and the racks were overflowing with goods, tools, and everyday items.
Once The Warehouse was up and running Stephen Tindall wanted to help others, that's why he set up The Tindall Foundation with his wife, Margaret. They set the foundation up because they wanted to provide help for people in need.
Stephen Tindall has a net worth of $655 million, and donates to over 700 organisations a year, ranging from $1000 for local community groups to $1 million of large scale partnership projects. The Tindall Foundation gives an average of around $9 to $12 million away each year through six types of programs.

Stephen Tindall has accomplished great things and received many awards such as The New Zealand Herald named him Business Person Of The Year in 1997, in 2006 he was recognised for his leadership contributions to NZ, on behalf of The Sir Peter Blake Trust he was awarded a medal, and much much more. He was also voted KiwiBank New Zealander of the Year in 2015.
