PLD Library 2021-2022 End-of-Year Update

This was a school year for the books! (See what I did there??) We wanted to share some highlights in statistics and pictures.

PLD Library stats:

We hosted 299 separate classes for various activities in the Fall 2021 semester and 127 classes for the Spring 2022 semester, for a total of 426 classes hosted.

This school year, we circulated 9,953 items to students and staff. We almost broke 10,000 checkouts!!! The top 5 titles were Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas (urban), The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (urban), A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson (mystery), Dear Martin by Nic Stone (urban), and Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (fantasy).

Kim Overstreet managed 2,703 Chromebooks for PLD students and staff, including the massive task of end-of-year Chromebook collection.

During this year, the PLD Library acquired and processed 832 new books.

The PLD Library expanded our offerings of digital titles, including eBooks, eAudio, and eMagazines, all accessible 24/7 by logging on through our catalog at bit.ly/pldcatalog.

Black History Month in the PLD Library
Inspired by TPWK vibes from a student who would randomly place pictures of Harry Styles around PLD, the PLD Library launched "Catch These Bulldogs Reading," and we gave out candy and vinyl stickers to students who found them.
YA Author Paul Volponi came to speak to a variety of classes and shared stories, tips for writing, and life advice in general.
PLD Library was so happy to receive books in various world languages from an EL grant, and to house the annual Cultural Fair again!
The end of the school year was dominated by testing, make-up testing, Chromebooks (okay, the whole year was dominated by Chromebooks but the end was particularly intense) and saying goodbye to 10 of our senior Library aides.

We want to thank you for your continual support of the PLD Library! We've made a few layout changes, and I've got some ideas for making our shelves more browser-friendly for students, so I've got some summer work to do. In the meanwhile, we hope YOU have an amazing summer and come back ready for an awesome school year in August 2022.
