Soil Quality

The soil quality of Temperate Deciduous Forests is very rich and nutritious because during the winter the trees leaves fall and then decompose making very nutritious soil.

Invasive and Endangered Species

The American Mink first came to the UK from North America for fur farms eventually the animals escaped and reproduced. Since there is no natural predator the minks there population just keeps on rising and their prey has gone down over 95%.

The Small Tortiseshell Butterfly has been declining because of a parasitic fly (H) in HIPPCO because this specific fly destroyed the habitat of the butterflies and there leaves that they lay eggs on and also poor summers have affected the butterflies which is (C) in HIPPCO.

Animals in the Temperate Deciduous Forest

The red squirl's are seed eaters and can chose between good and bad nuts by putting them between there paws.

The Red Deer is one of the largest deers during the summer it has redish fur and during the winter it has greyish fur.

European Pine Marten's have adapted to have sharp teeth to eat small mammals, birds, insects, etc.

Plants in the Temperate Deciduous Forest

Silver birch can reach up to 30m in height and are also good for the nutreants in the soil.

The Quaking Aspin is known to reach up to 25m and attract large amounts of insects and dead wood can serve for homes for birds.

Common elder berry is a Deciduous shrub and white flowers that then become black purple berries.
