Class 9's Summer 2 Learning Journey

Celebration!

In Class 9, we've had an amazing last half term! We've showed Miss Culshaw so many of the school values. Including being a team player, being king and working independently! Let's keep this up as we move into Year 6!

Reading Badges!

During this term, it was brilliant to see so many children reading at home. Well done to those children who were awarded reading badges! Let's keep this up next year!

Achievements

During this half term, we had lots of children bringing in their fantastic achievements. Thank you for sharing these with the rest of the class!

Literacy

During Literacy this term we focused on the Titanic! We used skills such as modal verbs, subordinating conjunctions and relative clauses. We thought really carefully about all these skills and applied them in our own advertisement to persuade people to buy tickets for the Titanic! We really impressed Miss Culshaw with our determination and perseverance to create a final piece!

LIRA

In LIRA this half term, we firstly looked at the book 'The Nowhere Emperioum' by Ross MacKenzie. We used this book to make predictions and inferences all about the characters and the storyline. We then moved onto looking at song lyrics as part of our music curriculum. During these topics we explored comprehension style questions and used our own opinion to give detailed answers! Miss Culshaw is unbelievably proud of how much Class 9 have come on in LIRA this year!

As part of our LIRA this half term, we also had the amazing opportunity to take part in a reading workshop all about 'The Magician's Daughter'. Thank you to those who purchased the book, and we hope you are enjoying it.

Maths

In maths this half term we recapped fractions, decimals and percentages and used these to answer reasoning and problem solving questions. We then moved onto recapping place value and tested our knowledge by solving real life problems. Miss Culshaw was very proud of our resilience and determination to further our understanding and learning during our maths lessons this year - well done!

Science

Our science this term was learning all about reversible and irreversible changes. We applied our knowledge to real life situations and discussed how we could separate different materials from each other.

Music

During this half term our focus has been on Music, specifically looking at Music for Film. During this topic, we started off by listening to different music from different films. We discussed how these made us feel and what atmosphere they create. We then moved onto using the keyboards, where we practised different chords including minor and dissonant chords. We thoroughly enjoyed this topic and impressed Miss Culshaw with our determination to learn new knowledge,

Drawing Week Focus

In the last week of this half term, we focused on the artist 'Dion Archibald'. We explored his art work and practised our own drawing techniques ready to apply in a final outcome. We can't wait to share our Barnsley Cityscapes with you!

Sports Day

During this half term we participated in our Sports Day! We had the privilege to go to an elite sport setting - Dorthy Hyman Sports Centre. We took part in a number of different activities including high jump, sprint and tug of war.

In Class 9 we have continued to work hard on our spellings this half term. We are so proud of how our pupils have been working so hard to improve their spellings and their scores on Spelling Shed. Keep logging onto Spelling Shed and let's all continue to improve our spelling skills.

JAR Awareness Day!

During this half term, we all took part in a JAR Awareness Day, where we all came dressed in purple. We also had the pleasure of listening to Michelle ( a volunteer from the charity) who came to tell us all about Juvenile idiopathic arthritis and how we can do our best to support those with it. Thank you!
