Artist Statement

This piece is a part of a series of art works in various art forms that highlight the women in my family across 5 generation. This video highlights my maternal Grandma, Ann, a woman who learned to call the whole world her home, it also demonstrates the inextricable influence she has had on me and how her perspectives have guided me in each phase of my life. Through viewing the piece and listening to my narrative, I hope you'll find a connection between her experiences and your own, that the wisdom of Grandma Ann will give you strength to face your fears and by so doing unleash your limitless potential.

Bio

Izzy Healey is the new Assistant Professor of Art Education in the Department of Art and Design. She dabbles in various art forms with quilting and fiber arts being her primary art form. In the last three years she has begun exploring multimedia video making because of its potential as a storytelling tool and as a more accessible and engaging art form for a wider public audience. Through her work and research, she seeks to encourage individual self-discovery and identity development through the creative process of digital storytelling. This video was made through her own exploration of self and cultural identity. She is currently applying this process within a workshop context comprised of first- and second-generation Latina immigrants ages 18-38. If any are interested in being involved in the process, they are encouraged to contact her at Izzy.Healey@uvu.edu.
