Class 8 Learning Journey Spring 1 2021/22

Literacy

For the first part of this half term in Literacy we focussed on writing an advertisement to try to persuade people to come to Hogwarts. For this piece we learnt all about alliteration and how it impacts on advertisements. We gained further understanding of fronted adverbials, sophisticated conjunctions and modal verbs.

For the second part of this half term we have been writing an explanation text linked to Fantastic beasts and where to find them. In this piece we learnt that we needed to include figurative language, topical language and make sure our writing was in the present tense.

Maths

This half term in maths we have explored place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We also studied fractions, decimals and percentages and then shapes.

LIRA

Linking to our Literacy we have been reading the first two Harry Potter books (narratives) and the start of the Cursed child (play).

Topic

in topic we all received an exciting delivery! We were all accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

Our focus for topic this half term has been on Design and a Technology. Within the letters we received, were instructed to make our own wands! We spent time researching different wands of the different characters from Harry Potter. We then moved onto designing our own wand then we finally began to make them.

To make our wands we experimented with different materials such as clay, modroc and papier-mâché. We decided that the most suitable material to make our wands would be modroc with a layer of papier-mâché to add extra texture.
