Established in 1565, St Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited in continental USA.
World wide photowalk started in 2008 and has continued to inspire photographers of varying interests and skills bring together for a fun half day of walk, talking photography and making photographs.WWWPW 2016 took place on 1st October. This was my first walk and it was quite fun!
It was a hot sunny day and resulted in strong directional light. I decided to focus on strong compositions and chiaroscuro. I enjoy Black & White photography and felt that lighting and subjects were a good fit for monochromatic palette.
Considering its unique history, location on the water, accessibility, wonderful streets for walking lined with unique and at times kitschy shops, museums and great places to eat, its is no wonder that St Augustine is very popular with tourists.
Who can resist the opportunity to watch a movie and eat. Elvis would likely approve!
As I struggled to compose the scene and pressed hard against the tree which had branches in the way, messing up the shot, I asked myself: what would Elvis do? and I recalled the quote: "It's human nature to gripe, but I'm going ahead and doing the best I can." and so did I!
There is plenty of color and character to be found around town.
Old houses converted into Bed & Breakfast Inns. Color scheme is nicely balanced by plenty of colorful foliage and flowers.
Streets abound with artists, performers and vendors. This gentleman is self proclaimed last sheet music entertainer in St Augustine accompanied by his singing dog, Cap'n Ralph Maggie Monro.
St Augustine is a fairly family friendly place. Saturday morning is a good time to visit the area as its not too terribly crowded yet.
"Secure attachment is classified by children who show some distress when their caregiver leaves but are able to compose themselves and do something knowing that their caregiver will return. Can you spot the mother's foot?
Lightner museum is available as a venue for weddings and other events. It is housed in a picturesque and elegantly appointed former "Alcazar Hotel" built in 1888 by Henry Flaggler. Its hard to say what's in the box, but, could it be a wedding gift? an engagement present? or perhaps a box of chocolates?
"Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Forest Gump, 1994
There are things known and things unknown and in between are the doors: Jim Morrison.
You have to open the door to get to things unknown! Who knows what lies on the other side? I took the time to compose and make the picture; what I did not do was to venture to the other side of the door. Mistake? perhaps, but then it is better to have mysteries than finding out what precisely awaits us beyond the realms of the known!
