February is Career and Technical Education Month (CTE Month)

This week, Dr. Phillips spoke with CTE instructors Bryan Long and Patrick Verdun about the new district CTE center, set to open next school year. Newberg High School’s new CTE department will offer more technical skills, knowledge, and training to students as they prepare to enter the job market.

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day (2/22/23)

Please join us in saying THANK YOU to all of the bus drivers who serve Newberg Public Schools. They get up early, usually work split shifts and often stay late to ensure that our students receive safe transportation to and from school events.

We appreciate you!

Meet the Newberg Public Schools Tech Team

Our new tech team is working hard to honor the work of their predecessors while streamlining new systems for our increasingly technical future. Hear from them what it’s like to be a techie at Newberg Public Schools.

Black History Month

In the spotlight: Granville T. Woods

Granville T. Woods was an entrepreneur and inventor, best known for developing the technology which allows trains, subways, and ships to communicate with one another. Woods was born on April 23rd, 1856, in Columbus, Ohio. His sharp mind was evident from a young age, and his parents worked hard to send him to school despite living in poverty. Sadly, he could only attend school until the age of ten, at which point he was forced to withdraw and begin working in order to help support his family.

Parent Bill Of Rights

Newberg Public Schools recognizes that every child’s greatest potential will most likely be achieved through a partnership between parents and the education system. In an effort to cultivate active engagement between parents, community members, and schools, Newberg Public Schools will facilitate the creation of a Parent Bill of Rights, a written pledge crafted by Newberg School Board members and parents, that will acknowledge how important parents are to the success of all students attending Newberg Public Schools. It will serve as a reminder that parents are the authority when it comes to deciding what is best for their children, and that Newberg Public Schools will honor the sacred relationship parents have with their children.

The Newberg School Board members are putting together a Parent Bill of Rights, and they need your input! Are you interested in being on the Parent Bill of Rights advising committee? Do you want to be a voice for parents in your community? If your answer is yes, please send an email to parentbillofrights@newberg.k12.or.us with your answers to the following three questions:

1. Why do you want to be on the Parent Bill of Rights Committee?

2. Are you willing to meet on a (reasonable) regular basis with your fellow committee members?

3. Are you willing to be a positive voice for parents in your school and community?

Thank you for your support as the School Board moves forward with this venture. We look forward to hearing from you!

NEWBERG SCHOOLS WORKING OVERTIME TO FILL OPEN TEACHER VACANCIES

More than half of all public schools in the country reported being understaffed at the start of the 2022-23 school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics

NEWBERG, Oregon (February 23, 2023) – Recent teaching and staff vacancies in the Newberg School District have brought a renewed focus on a problem vexing educators everywhere: Good help is still very difficult to find.

The issue of teaching vacancies and a shortage of qualified candidates to fill them, is not a challenge faced only in the Newberg Schools. National statistics show that Newberg’s dilemma, while difficult and certainly stressful, is a familiar one for schools nationwide.* This predicament is requiring school human resource administrators to get creative in solving this unprecedented surge in teacher vacancies.

Meet Claire Faucher and Michael Little, the hosts of TWINN: This Week In Newberg Nation.

These two are making sure that Newberg High School students are getting all of the important information they need!

In this video, Claire and Michael delve deeper into what they do, as well as share their visions for the future of digital media at Newberg High School.
